I feel bad for the kid. If I was the operator, I would kill myself right now... Seriously.

She made a mistake.
Unfortunately, regardless of your line of work, mistakes happen. This is a tragic event, but it is certainly not a reason to condemn this woman, especially when we don't have any details on the content of the call itself.

Completly sucks for the kid, I feel for him. I would take a cops gun and shoot the operator to be honest.

I think we can all agree here that the problem solely lies in the fact that the operator was a woman.

The bottom line is that she's supposed to treat every 911 call as if it were real. It's not in her authority to pick and chose between what is real and what isn't.

That's horrible.
We do community service here in my school and we work with 911 operators. We were taught how kids/adult make prank calls and how we still need to send the police/ambulance over. We never got a prank 911 call. Ps. It's pretty cool you get 6 months of training and actually answer calls of the operators and get to be driven in the ambulance+ helping the paramedics.

Yeah, I saw this on the news. Showed the call and everything, it was horrible. I'm actually doing a research paper on Fahrenheit 411 and I'm making the issue about people mistreating their responsibilities as an employee of an important position. I'm using this story as a main source. It's not the best issue and I don't have much to back it up though. It's just so sad....Oh I meant the death of course.

Thats horrible.
When i was younger My friend was being a total muppet and jumped through an abandoned retirement home window. He was 14, drunk and a twat. Anyway i called the operater to be fowarded to the hospital. She thought i was pulling a prank. Luckily after about 10 minutes of pleading i manged to convince her. Pranking the police and so on isnt funny at all. My friend had to endure 10 minutes more pain and blood loss and whats worse is that other kid lost his mum. If so many little twats didnt cry wolf then that poor boys mum would be alright.

Reminds me of the time I was in the Nakatomi Plaza when it was taken over by high-tech German thieves. After procuring a SMG, radio, and detonators, I managed to make my way up to the roof, where I placed a call to the police station on the radio, and...
ME: I need to report a hostage situation at the Nakatomi Plaza LADY: Sir, this channel is reserved for emergencies only. ME: NO ****, LADY! DO I SOUND LIKE I'M ORDERING A ****ING PIZZA?! Needless to say, they sent a solitary cop-car over.

It almost ended very badly. Now, I'm off to Chicago to pick my wife up at the airport. I haven't seen her since the incident at the tower. Wish me luck!

The thing I wonder is, did she really go into a coma and then die because the EMS didn't get to her, or did she just drop dead? Granted, the lady should have realized that the boy was quite serious, especially after the second call, but if her response or the lack thereof didn't really make a difference, I dunno....
But one thing's for sure. This is only a problem because stupid kids think it's funny to prank call 911. =\

During the high school musical people kept calling 911 from the green room, it happens every year and its getting really annoying.
They actually respond now b/c dumbass freshmen set off a dry ice bomb during the fall play If your pizza is cold, put it in the microwave. |

Okay, there were MORE terrorists at the airport. I thought the special forces team was on my side, but they were actually trying to escape the country. After extermenating all of them, my wife's plane was able to safely land, but since, we've grown distance and gotten seperated. She's moving across the country with my kids.
I'm going back to NY, see if I can't get things to work out.

That is horrible. The lady should have lost her job on the spot. Even if there was a remote chance that it was a prank, the dispatcher should have at least sent one out there to make sure. And if it was, oh well you wasted a total of 5 minutes and you could just tell the kid not to do it again.

This is what they should do...
When they get a suspicious call, send someone over, if it was just a prank, give them some good old fashioned police brutality and see how many prank phone calls you get.
