Angry The Right to push your veiws on others

So i go to a private Anglican school and at chapel the other Rev. Mee who is the college chaplin said and i quote " I am not here to push faith on you. I'm am here to spiritually develop you." But isn't that the same thing as push faith on you. We are required to take a Spiritual development class every week on thursday afternoons and we were told this had a very small part to do with the bible but... everything we do in the work book seems to go back to god. no offense to religious people or anything but im not a religious person and i veiw christianty the same as all the other religions, a explaination to un answered questions about how we came to be and the meaning of life. but what i think has crossed the line is the world veiws that Rev. Mee says that we have.

World veiw 1:
+ there is no god
+ life is a accident of nature; and is unfriendly, especially to me.
+People arn't so special
+Right and Wrong are mine to choose according to the circumstances
+ I see myself as a bit of a losser, my parents are not impressed with me; I Have little control over my life.

So she is pretty much saying there if we dont belive in god we're losers and our parents dont like us but there's World veiw 3:

+God exists, he powerfull, but close
+Life was created by God, has meaning and purpose and is basically friendly
+People are both good and bad. they are valuable and have body mind and soul
+Right & Wrong come from God who will judge us according to our choices
+i see myself as okay wuth quite a bit of control over my life; my parents love me.

is this the right sort of message to be giving us, im in grade 11 so im 16 i can see threw her atempts at scaring us into faith but this is also taught to little kids from grade 6 up. so should we have to study this?

I am unable to answer this question, as just trying to read it made my head hurt.

That private school of yours is apparently not doing a very good job teaching you how to write the English language.

If you don't like it, you should probably talk your parents into letting you go somewhere else. What they're doing isn't illegal or anything. You could try talking to some of the administrators in your school, also. Remember, this is not you versus them.

This is CT. If you are not willing to read over what you write AND write properly and coherently, then your posts/threads in CT will not go over well. Not to mention you will get flamed.

Whenever you type a word incorrectly, just hit backspace and fix it. It's not that hard. You just have to be aware about it. Read over what you write too. Its extremely useful if you want to ever write anything coherent at all.

anyway, I'm going to break this down

"So i go to a private Anglican school and at chapel the other Rev. Mee who is the college chaplin said and i quote " I am not here to push faith on you. I'm am here to spiritually develop you." But isn't that the same thing as push faith on you."

Yes, it is. You go to a Angelican school. This is what happens in Angelican schools.

"We are required to take a Spiritual development class every week on thursday afternoons and we were told this had a very small part to do with the bible but... everything we do in the work book seems to go back to god."

You go to a religious based school. Everything will go back to god. In their relative view, it is very small part bible. They probably sit with their head in the bible on their free time.

"no offense to religious people or anything but im not a religious person and i veiw christianty the same as all the other religions, a explaination to un answered questions about how we came to be and the meaning of life."

It's also a set of morals. This is what I feel is the more important.
P.S., do you even know anything about other religions?

" but what i think has crossed the line is the world veiws that Rev. Mee says that we have."

Type in English please

"World veiw 1:
+ there is no god
+ life is a accident of nature; and is unfriendly, especially to me."

Many people agree

"+People arn't so special"

Why not? Expand on this.

"+Right and Wrong are mine to choose according to the circumstances"

You better have a strong will, or you will make the wrong decision.

"+ I see myself as a bit of a losser, my parents are not impressed with me; I Have little control over my life."

From this statement, you seem to have an extremely weak will. Do you realize that what you see yourself as is something you have FULL control over? You also have more control over your life than you think. If your parents aren't impressed, then either 1) you have a problem, or 2) they have a problem. Or both. If I was a parent and I saw you type incoherent crap like this, I wouldn't be impressed. It's something YOU can change.

If you don't like your school, ask your parents if you can switch. TELL them that you want to switch. You have more power than you think. You can switch into a public school or something like that. You have to take the initiative yourself though.

Spiritual development class? Sounds like an easy A. Quit whinning.

Here, this all you have to do:

"Yeah, I agree, Jesus/God is pretty cool." You dont nessecarily have to believe in what you say...people do it all the time.

If they ask you "who do you think this?" just respond with "Because he's God you idiot. He's invisible! He floats around in Space shooting lightning out of his fingertips! If you ask me, that's pretty damn cool. I mean, look at you! If God told you to jump off of the Sears Tower, you bet your damn ass you would! You're a slave to someone you don't even know! Now that's power."

I think faith/religion is something you have to find out for yourself. Other people and sources can influence you, but ultimately, your life, your choice.

I, myself have not been a very religious person. I used to view people as "getting me into religion as a method of fear". with all that hell stuff. I used to consider myself atheist, but i found a better term and I call myself an agnostic.

The ways of science are pretty convincing, but you have to wonder sometimes, if we're such an accident, why do we have all this throught process. Why are we here, etc...

If there is no god, there would always be a need to create one. Faith is something that helps people move along even in the worst times. I think faith is a tool like that.

But, finally, I do believe there's something. But it's within each of us, and all of us. =/

I agree with Jewpin, lie and do well. Remember, you're not punishing yourself by not staying true to your beliefs (as you would supposedly be if you pretended not to be Christian and you were.) so may aswell just milk it! I know what is it like to feel uncomfortable about having a different set of beliefs than other people, but whatever, do what is easiest. If just going along with it is the easiest thing to do, and the most beneficial. You should do it, especially when there are no negative consequences from doing it.

The negative consequence would be not staying true to yourself, which is a big nono.

Personally...listen to your gut instinct. It's usually right you know. If you want out or something...get out. Or if you're on the fence, do some research, expand your horizons and come to your own conclusion. There is no one way to believe in something o_o

I also like how people assume a lack of an intelligent creator means that everything is an 'accident'. Our thought processes as humans is really so limited. I for some reason >_> highly doubt we had it all figured out thousands of years ago!

Chickendude, he wasn't talking about himself, he was stating the rest of the stereotype the Chaplain gave for that "world view." I think that's what he meant anyway.

But yeah, do whatever you have to in order to get through school.

Chickendude, maybe you should revise your own posts as well Anglicanism (i.e. Church of England) is pretty different from Angelicanism (Church of... Angels?) :P

In any case, I think the original poster was referencing various worldviews that he is being told are the only possible worldviews to have. Speaking of which, you mention a worldview #1 and a worldview #3, but where's the #2? o_O

Also, I went to an Episcopal school for a year (as I understand it, Episcopalianism is the non-English version of Anglicanism), and they were hardly as religiously conservative as the original poster or chickendude claim all such schools to be. Please don't generalize

ap is dead on. There's really not that much need for discussion here. >_>

If you don't like what's being preached, then find another school. IF you can't, well, I guess you're SOL. Sorry.

Hey um, I go to a private religious school too, and there always making me learn about that religion. What a conundrum. I have no idea why a religious school would make me learn about religion. What is up with that?
