K, so you guys know how sometimes Windows will pop up a little thing in the bottom right saying there are new updates available for download? And you know how if you don't get them yourself the computer will download them by itself? And you know how after it's done it'll install them and prompt you to restart all on its own? And ya know how if you don't restart it yourself it will do it for you?
Well you see, I use my computer as an alarm clock, with the volume turned up it blares music in the morning to get me up. Well my computer decided to restart itself last night, so my alarm didn't go off, so I overslept and missed my freaking physics test. I have no idea what I'm going to do about that, but to make sure it doesn't happen again, I need your help. HOW THE HELL DO I MAKE MY COMPUTER STOP UPDATING ITSELF!? I swear I told it not to update itself a long time ago but it won't stop. Does anybody know exactly what I have to do to make it completely stop getting updates and installing them itself? It's really freaking annoying, especially when it pops up that dialog saying it will restart in 30 seconds unless I say no. Computers shouldn't freaking do that, and it's really pissing me off.

Remove the Internet connection.
That'd teach it a lesson.

Windows as an alarm clock? Intresting.
It won't stop saying it wants to update? Update manually, THEN do what zachisevil suggested. Maybe it wanted to update itself when you turned off the automatic update thing so it just overrid itself? Who knows, I'm no god with Windows, or any sort of software for that matter.

I put Data Drain as my alarm clock.
If I don't get up by the screaming at the end, the rest of my family gets up and they get pissed.

If it actually turned updates back on, disconnecting from the internet temporarily would probably be a good idea if you absolutely need to get up the next day.
I have absolutely no luck with using alarms to get up, i can sleep through Speedcore Dandy if i'm really tired. |

Y'know what I use as an alarm clock? An Alarm Clock.
Like, as in the little clock that goes on your bedside table and rings real loud at any certain time that you set it for. It can quite handy.

I have to set multiple alarm clocks in order to get up, set at different times.
Yea if you have to set your alarm clock, just disconnect from the Internet before going to bed. |

And uh, it hasn't updated itself again yet, but I doubt there would be new updates already. And guys, I DON'T WANT TO UPGRADE MY COMPUTER! All the new viruses get made for the new updates that take advantage of the new software. If you still ran Windows 3.1 you'd never get viruses/spyware cuz it wouldn't know what the hell to do. It's happened in the past, some big update happens and everybody upgrades and then they all get viruses. I'd rather have old versions of crap, thank you very much.

You can add a new task, which being you want an alarm, just add the song that you want to wake up to, and it will go to a whole panel where you can set the time, and many other options, works well, I use it too. As for the other problem, get all the updates. Go to windowsupdate.com or somthing and make sure you have all of them. It shouldn't update if it doesn't need to. If problem persists, check up to date virus software ;]
