![]() Sure... But come on, isn't it fun to force ourselves to make a choice at some point, to strike a conversation? To me, your response is technically correct, but no fun. You might as well say "the generation of PCs is the best because it plays all games either natively or through emulation". Then again, where are the boundaries for the generational range of PCs that allow good emulation of recent hardware?
I'll gladly agree to disagree, I don't mean to push you in a corner and force a response. Besides, you even said Dreamcast was probably your favorite generation because of skies of arcadia. Fair enough! |

![]() My favorite is the 6th gen but I LOVE the 3rd to 6th generations in general, there are cool games in the 1st and 2nd generations but in general u kinda play those games for 10 minutes and then put them down. Anything after the 6th gen is kinda lame imo i dont rly like modern games.
My favorite consoles are Gamecube, Dreamcast, NES, and N64 Last edited by FirstMaple8; 01-31-2022 at 10:15 AM.. |

![]() I'm not super interested in "console generations" per se, but as far as the evolution of the craft goes, the late 90s--mid 2000s had the biggest gradient in terms of creativity and dedication, in my opinion. (In my mind, the PS1, Dreamcast, and PS2 best characterize this shift.)
I still maintain that the PS2 is the best console ever, by virtue of how versatile and well-rounded its library was. The PSP is the GOAT in terms of handhelds. The gap between smaller studio productions and AAA studios back then didn't feel as large as it does now. I'm definitely biased though, since I stopped giving a shit about video games after the PS3.

![]() DBP's post stings so hard because it's 100% on the nose.
Believe it or not, there used to be a great stigma against video games before most of you were born, and video games were on their way out of the market as a 'niche' back in 1983-1985 because the Home Computer was just better for handling that sort of aspect and most games at the time were of poor quality. Honestly if it wasn't for Nintendo releasing the NES and kickstarting a generation of consoles that would domino into competition spanning multiple decades, requiring better performance, better games, better graphics, etc. We might have been forever stuck with indie games, flash games and nothing else. I also agree that when the PS3 came, video games reached their peak fmpov of what I would consider "Best Gaming Generation", and started on their decline. Of course, you would get the odd outlier like Undertale or Skyrim, but on the years of which those released, it's hard to not acknowledge the biased ratio of how many "good game for every 'x' number of bad games" there are, has increased comparatively to the mid-to-late 2000's. ![]() The best time is now. New AAA games are still fantastic. Indie games are incredible. Competitive multiplayer games are still doing fine. There is a game for anyone and everyone with like 20 different ways to play them.
