Only change I would make is make it D1-3, D4-6 and the 7. The gap between 3 and 4 is usually a good benchmark if you ask me. Also it's more even distribution that way :^)

I mean certainly not for this tournament, seeing how much effort we pushed for getting all the files necessary and all that, but maybe something to think about for next time

New idea for the 12th official tournament: NO eliminations. Then people won't bitch and moan because they suck at the round 1 file...there's time to catch up and get a file you're better at.
And maybe use victory points (scoring based on how many people whose scores you beat in a round) instead of cumulative raw score, a la Dossar's Brutality tournaments. |

Or swiss rounds with actual direct player pairings?

That would involve individual seeding, and not only would that take an exceedingly longer amount of time, the tournament would then likely take much longer needing to go through individual bracket rounds like that.
And knowing that FFR certainly can always use a boost to participation, they'd likely make it double elimination so that you'll have at least 1 more opportunity to play again. (Therefore again making the tournament longer, + grand finals bracket resets???)

Swiss doesn't have eliminations, that's the point of swiss.
In fact, with the numbers for this official tournament, running it as Swiss would only be 6 rounds instead of 8, and nobody would be eliminated for the whole 6 rounds. Last edited by devonin; 06-27-2016 at 02:31 PM.. |

Also, because Swiss awards points for draws, you don't even have to get bogged down in "what happens if both people AAA"

Division 1: 21 / 34 (61.76%)
Division 2: 41 / 52 (78.85%) Division 3: 44 / 51 (86.27%) Division 4: 44 / 50 (88%) Division 5: 62 / 82 (75.61%) Division 6: 44 / 51 (86.27%) Division 7: 37 / 41 (90.24%) Seeing these numbers, it is mindblowing that D1 is the smallest division; it truly depicts that the populace on FFR is rather skilled (majority of active players are between D3-D5) and people who complain about the difficulty of this tournament should be reminded of this fact: people are much better than the previous years, alarmingly fast too. |

I think it's less that the average person is better, and more that only people who are good at the game are still actually playing it.
If you look at "newer" easy difficulty songs, they have as few as 2,000 people with scores logged, versus 600,000 for the very old easy songs. The average FFR player is better every year, because fewer and fewer below average players are staying. |

Well that and the rhythm game market is a LOT more saturated now than it ever was, and probably a lot of people who might have played/stayed here, who like rhythm games are playing them on their phone etc. |
