Also can you folks just stop with the placement talk until after the tournament and just enjoy it? I'm sure that the organizers would be happy to field suggestions/comments/concerns about placements or any other tournament business when it's over and they have time to worry about it again.
Edit: goddammit Mina my thumbs only move so faat

The bolded part is funny to me because I was just saying over here about an hour ago how I was actually a bit miffed that participant badges were created. Because the whole reason that profile badges came about was me looking for another prize to obtain for the officials since we didn't have anything like T-shirts and stuff to give, (so it was something for the winners back then, not everyone). All we had were the same old tokens and credits to give. Now everyone gets one just for coming in and to me that's kind of meh.

Probably because the game of placing divisions is a losing one and at the end of the day we really just want to play the game instead of arguing over divisions. People will deal. They seem to have so far.

If people feel the need to pride themselves in having participated in several officials and/or being in certain divisions during each one, they'll list the ones they participated in. The badges just give them a way to do that. If they placed and earned a top 8 badge or what not, they'll have those. Having a badge does not somehow make what it stands for more important or devalues other badges just because its not that important. It really just makes a list of accomplishments slightly more compact and better on the eyes.

To my knowledge you can't list only specific ones, I'd personally rather not have the participation badges on mine. Either you show the whole block of badges or none last I knew and I just looked at my profile and saw no way to select specifics. |

hi guys i hit an arrow and submitted a positive score i want a participant badge please
EDIT: lost internet mid-edit, nice! I see nothing wrong with having participants listed somewhere, but having them in the same place as top x badges is a bit strange to me. In a location where achievements are collected and represented by visual indicators, having participant badges makes them inherently less elusive. Certainly nothing wrong with having them from an archival perspective, but that should be sported elsewhere, haha. Last edited by TC_Halogen; 06-26-2016 at 02:45 AM.. |

Maybe this is from the perspective of someone who has never seen profile badges as elusive, but it doesn't feel like you're giving out participation badges as an award for participating (and you shouldn't). It instead feels like you're certifying that someone has participated. In the same way you certify that someone was, in fact, the winner of a particular division.

Here's my hot take on participation badges.
Even if you don't get Top 16 or whatever (my personal best placement is 30th) it's nice to see that you have, in fact, been getting better over the years. It's a testament to all the hurdles you've overcome, all the personal bests you've set. And when you get stuck, just know that with diligence and determination, this too shall pass. Just probably not as fast as you'd like it to. |

1/ I didn't put words in anybody's mouth. Yes, it was PsychoAngel's -opinion- that 'getting participation badges is meh' therefore, to characterize her position as "participation badges are meh" seems 100% in keeping with her stated opinion. I didn't say she was presenting it as a universal fact, I quoted the -sentiment- behind the statement for -comedic effect- 2/ It was a joke, see the end of point 1 3/ *sniffle* Last edited by devonin; 06-26-2016 at 02:58 AM.. |

my opinion is we should ban jokes in the main OT thread and create an OT jokes thread, top 8 posters get profile badges

I feel it's a step in the right direction I think we would need alot more than 2 charts though, maybe like iono... 100? consisting of all difficulties and have varying patterns and lengths maybe they could have a weight distribution system so our skill level can be reflected by our greatest strengths so others around our skill levels can possibly be better at different things than we are, and significantly worse at what we are good at. Making tournaments much more dynamic and interesting hey...wait just a darn second >:C |
