Default I've decided to become a solipsist.

Discuss.

Default RE: I

Since you didn't explain what a solipsist was, I did a bit of research.

"Solipsism is the belief that, because we can only verify our own experiences and no-one elses, only the self is real."

I used to have glimmering moments where I thought "What if that were true?" But I've never really considered it as a valid state of the universe. Let's ignore whether it's actually real or not, shall we, and find out what's wrong with it.

Obviously it leads to selfish behaviour. If everyone were like that, nobody would feel they have any reason to do any good will to others, since they don't really feel it and you're just imagining them. If people are toys for you, why not mess around with them mercilessly and take no hinderance to the golden rule? I personally think that's selfish. You have no way to prove you're right, and you're probably wrong, and if you take hold of this belief you have no reason to be nice to anyone else other than to avoid confrontation. You have every reason to lie and decieve.

Now, to why I don't think it works.

My imagination would have to be pretty extensive to make up all these things. And especially since only the outer works of it are apparent when I am younger, and it is only when I am older that I can actually begin to learn why and how it all works. I don't think it makes sense to have created this imaginary reality, with no foundations in mind, and then suddenly these foundations start to spring up. Why do they work? Why didn't I know about them before? And why is my world based on these rules? It's like trying to create a skyscraper by building the top floor, suspending it from helicopters, and filling in the gap in between as you go along. It's just not a practical way to do things or in the case of solipsism, explain things. It makes much more sense for a basic groundwork to exist and for everythng to be built up upon it until the real world is apparent to me.

Basically there are too many co-incidences in the world if solipsism is true. Gravity just HAPPENS to make sense? And how come there is this huge history of people taht I've never known? Why would I make them up? I don't even like history! All the laws of physics fall perfectly into place (well okay, not perfectly, but you get the idea)? They just happen to? There is no reason for the world to make real logical sense if I am just imagining this. Well, possibly, if my imagination is so extensive to have actually created these groundworks, then covered it up in the backworks of my brain and only remembered the apparent world, but why should my imagination be so extensive if there are much easier ways of explaining these things?

And if my imagination is so huge, where is it contained?

Nothing exists but myself? I don't think my brain is sufficient for storing all the information visible in the universe to me.

Basically, this is grabbing occam's razor and trying to hide it. Simple solution: things just exist. Backwards solution: I'm imagining things, and my imagination and self just exist.

If I am getting this totally wrong, sorry, but that's what you get for not explaining things in full hon.

I ROFL'd after I actually read what a Solipsist actually means. So Kilga can be imagining 3rd style and that he's playing it right now.

So... I'm gonna lock this now.

Perhaps if we had a CT G-Bin, this would be perfect.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing when I made the topic.

I probably should've posted this when more people I knew would appreciate it were online, the only person I saw at the time was Guido.
