The application period is now over.
Since the release of R^3, the concept of new content has, for the most part, been alien. Without the intervention of PrawnSkunk, things around here would still be completely stagnant. The development team is finally stepping up to the challenge of creating a new, user-oriented FFR. We have a plan which is ambitious enough to recruit a new team of proficient designers and developers. If you'd like to be a part of our team, please consider applying! Before you apply, understand that: • You must be present to attend three (ten minute) group meetings each week. Meetings will be held via Skype/Google Hangouts each Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings. If you are unable to accommodate time for these group meetings, you should not apply. • You will be expected to complete your assigned weekly tasks. Although we will try to uphold our ambitious targets, we also understand that you have real-world obligations that take precedence. • You must be prepared to receive constructive feedback, and be willing to process it to make changes. We are all in this to create the best possible result. Positions User Experience Designer Applications will close October 11th @ 11:59pm (server time). Please take your time to write an application that reflects your enthusiasm to help design the future of FFR. You will be contacted regardless of the outcome of your application. We will invite you for a group video call, in which we will talk about what we want to do and discuss the work that you’ve sent us. Getting invited to a video call does not guarantee that you will be offered the position, we want to meet you first. We will not be looking for programmers until the full design for FFR has been completed and is ready to be implemented. Last edited by Zageron; 10-12-2014 at 12:59 AM.. |

Nice offer
Think it's the first time I've seen comments off for a front page announcement. |

Not to mention that the date of the FP announcement is yesterday. (Zageron is probably posting from the Kiribati or something)
Anyway, it will be nice to see new blood in the development team, does that mean a new engine will come up in the future ?

Possibly to avoid having it push the tournament hype off the top?

God I've been wanting to do something for FFR back but currently I have none of the skills... will something like this been available maybe a year or two down the road?

If anyone is having doubts on whether they should apply or not, feel free to ask questions for more details on each position. I'd be more than happy to elaborate.

I've done some GUI and graphic design stuff for school stuff.
Don't know if I have what it takes since I feel like there's others on here that are more than qualified. Would be cool to do though, dohoho. |

Had interactive and user interface design implemented in my graphic design curriculum with plenty of sample work from both school and work (research, wire framing, rough concepts/mockups, final products, etc.).
My issue is that I'm not sure if I'll have the time to commit since I work full-time and juggle another part-time job along with freelancing on the side (e.g. I'm gone all day on Fridays). I'm free most evenings after work for the most part though. I'll think about it before applying.

you mentioned 'new, user-oriented FFR'...what is the goal you all are trying accomplish with FFR R^3? is this just flashy designs to sugar-coat feces, or are we looking at a revamp-to-revival?

Correct. Volunteer only. (None of us are getting paid either.)

To elaborate on the user-oriented plan, without committing too much up front, is that when you come to the home page you will already be in the multi-player lobby.

omg so good. I work UX at sas and a bunch of other side projects, so I absolutely positively couldn't find the time to do this but I've been around here for forever the the original UI was hilarious gah how the times change. Someone should definitely pick this up though, it'd be so refreshing *lookin @ u GD
