Well, I see clearly the right eye (I guess the dog's left eye) needs to be lowered and such - i'll tackle that tomorrow. Anyone see any glaring mistakes? To me, it looks more bulldog-like than pug.
I'm going to outline it and attempt with colored pencil. I want this to be part of my sister's christmas present (: She loves pugs! Actual picture: ![]() My drawing: ![]() I'm also going to trace it onto another pice of paper - so many erasings, I would not be surprised if I make a hole in the paper soon Criticize, criticize, and criticize. Also, I've never really used colored pencil before...is there anyone who does? Any good techniques? Thanks c: Last edited by Hazelle; 11-22-2012 at 06:19 PM.. |

I think it looks really cute :3 I actually did something similar for a friend because she loves huskies, but I was also contemplating whether or not to do colored pencil. Ended up deciding not to because I didn't want to take the risk >.<..
Maybe you could try scanning the image after you're done and print out a couple copies to see how it comes out with that? |

Outline lightly if you're going to use colour pencil

I can't give any proper criticism on the accuracy since the photo is skewed, but take a proper look at the shapes and shading of the dog. Apart from a lot of missing shading which you could already draw in even when using colored pencil, drawing a highlight (like on concave lower part of the nose) isn't done with a line but with shading of the shapes (and leaving the highlights blank so they pop up as highlights).

I diiiid outline lightly though Well, kind of. I guess not light enough. I Just used a regular pencil, is there a different kind I should use? Thanks Tristan. I moved the bottom of the mouth up so it's not as lengthy - also moved up the paws. It looks a bit more puglike now, but it still doesn't have that pup sparkle I was hoping for. It's the eyes, I think. I'll mess around with it more later, but next update will be a properly SCANNED picture haha. UPDATE: I don't know if you can tell - but as I said, I made the face a little more squashed, and moved the paws up so they're still behind the pug's face. I hope you guys see what I mean - it looks like an adult pug, but I want that adorable "OHMYGODIT'SAPUPPY" look. ![]() Last edited by Hazelle; 11-22-2012 at 06:18 PM.. Reason: Double-posting = Bad. |
