I don't really care if this thread is ultimately meaningless, but I felt I had to say this somewhere anyhow.
Voting: This shouldn't really matter too much because voting doesn't affect anything other than potential viewers on a video, or influence of opinion on a comment. But still, there hasn't been this much deliberate abuse in the voting system until recently. Is it a trend? Obviously the perpetrators won't directly respond to this, but can you get a life? Commenting: Over 2000 spam comments on a video? Really. Some of the videos I wanted to watch, but the page sure took a whole lot longer to load for obvious reasons. Can you guys cut it out? I only noticed this stuff within the past 24 hours. That's it. /care |

Yeah I'm gonna have to agree with this. It's a little annoying reading LOOOOOL (etc). Just to watch a video...

What's more annoying is to read "In Soviet Russia, the video watches you!"

It is a bit ridiculous to see people cluttering up video comments with spam.
A lot of videos seem to be getting their comments "down-bombed". I think it'd be better to just have a "like" option so that people who genuinely have interest can show it, and those who don't can't influence the count (in an effort to avoid unnecessary dislikes). |

just to keep you updated bmah, the idiot who did the 2000 comments got ip banned like 10 minutes ago, yet idiots like pmonibuv contribute still, i'd love to know what you got out of doing that good sir.
as for voting, i'd just remove it completely, people do it on people that are hated, and do it for no reason, it's really stupid. "oh look let's make my ego bigger by clicking on a button hoping it will change peoples opinion on this person," it's so stupid but yeah i see where you're going with this thread |

@Halo: agree with the notion that the voting system should be changed to "likes" only, just like Digg it!
@Plan: correction: annoying, although largely inconsequential (well, not necessarily the case if you're counting on viewers, opinions, and the loading of a page on slower comps) |

Should probably ban the people who are doing it. As if the community wants people who spam meaningless comments.
EDIT: By ban, I mean perm IP ban.

Velocity mentioned on DF chat about forum rules applying to the video database and just commenting in general.
If that's the case, spamming is a bannable offense on videos and the main page. |

As with voting, I don't think FFR stores any info on who voted, so I think the way to go is to completely change the voting system altogether.

We need to set wait time for the comment box.
also I think we need these features for game level stats rather instead of video DB. |

I honestly don't see the issue of the voting. It's a good way to filter the shit comments. If it effects anyone in anyway I don't really know what to say about that.
As for the comment spamming, it would probably be a good idea to do what jimerax said.

Well that's the problem, every vid I see has comments in the negatives.

No, more like it's a shit way to filter shit comments. The abuse in the voting system is very apparent. Whether you think it matters or not, I still support the "Digg it!" style of voting as Halo and Superfreak has suggested.

I never noticed any "abuse" with the comment voting.

I actually was having a discussion with Velocity and Devonin about comment voting earlier today.
Devonin and I share similar sentiments regarding it. That is, it essentially serves no benefit outside of front page posts. I tried to convince Velocity that a removal or change with it was needed based on what Devonin and I talked about. He didn't agree, so that didn't go anywhere haha. Comment voting has been abused pretty heavily since day one. Not sure how you can miss people down-voting every comment on a front page post. xD |
