Default Super Mario Pack in progress

So it seems like in the future my work schedule will permit me more free time, and considering my normal, dull life, a fair portion of that will be directed towards stepmania.

So I was stepping some Mario and thought that a Mario pack might be a good idea. I’m sure others already exist, but I’d like this to be a wide scope to encompass quite a few files. Generally anything relevant to Mario.

Now I’m not a recognized author like Kommi or Puppet, etc., but I have a fair understanding of the fundamentals. And as Patashu said, I have a kinda peculiar style as far as omitted notes, etc. which, IMO, if applied correctly can greatly contribute to flow. If course this is debatable. My point is that Super Mario files are generally very simple so with only rudimentary stepping applied it obviously wouldn’t really permit me to superimpose any arguably-erroneous methods (blah blah blah). In other words this being my idea wouldn’t compromise the success of the pack.

Both released or unreleased files are fine. I doubt many files will be exclusive to the pack although it should be a nice accumulation of high quality files which would be a pain in the ass to sort through yourself on various databases.

So either post the link here, or you could even e-mail me a file at: PhantomPineapple@msn.com

There is no minimum difficulty since I know that a fair portion of Mario songs are pretty ****ing simple. They also generally repeat several time (not always) so if pitch relevance gets compromised while restructuring patterns when they repeat that’s obviously permitted to maintain the fun factor.

I’ll review all submissions and explain why it was or was not accepted. (if any credible authors would like to help that’d be awesome)

I’ll have to see how this project develops.

-Nick

Yeah I'm not sure. I think it'd make a good pack. Also good for audiences who aren't at the high end of the spectrum regarding playing ability. Yet it'd also include harder files so hopefully it'll encompass a wide audience.

Sure. I'd like to be lax as far as what songs would qualify. If it's generally relevant to Mario then it's fine.

However it sounds like it'd produce pretty monotonous steps. Best solution would be a cut + great layering.

No particular style. Use your judgement. If it's a really well-layerd and difficult chart then spread-biased steps are probably ideal. I lot of Mario songs are fairly easy though so I'm sure they'd be padable as well.

Meh. Seems plagued by jumps. Places like m22 are confusing. Seems like you neglected the most prominent notes to inaccurately step the background ones? I guess this could have been justified to prevent a transition from breaking flow, but you didn’t layer these sounds in other parts even when they were present. Either the background ones were stepped and are incorrect (and some missed) or you placed jacks to emulate the prominent sounds in which case their accurate patterns aren’t as simple, making it erroneous. With so many 16th jump jacks why did you omit bursts like that at 2.24?

Also, Pitch transitions at m31 are off by an 8th note.

I'm not that ingenuous, homie. I assumed it was a joke but I figured I still owed you the courtesy of a review.

Super Mario Bros Castle Metal Remix (ICYW): Cool song, dude, but this REALLY (really really really) needed to be a cut. The majority of the song (especially the first half) is way too monotonous. Take measure 41 for example. It's not that it was stepped poorly. Sections like that just lack potential to such a degree that there's nothing you could have done there to salvage it. Places like measures 10 and 11 should be absolutely identical.

Measure 80 is essentially an invertted scale regarding pitch relevance.

(and it seems like there may have been some superfluous hands)

Sorry, dude. It had some fun parts, but it was mostly just song choice. You can step a mediocre song (from SM standards) perfectly and still produce a sub-par file (I've done plenty of that).

Not getting enough submissions for this. I'll give it some more time, but I'll most likely resort to some other method of getting files.

Only file in here so far:
