Default Fire Planet

I made a "fire planet" in photoshop. Yes, I know I made it using filters, but it still looks cool.

Comments?

Haha..looks like render clouds -> bubble wrap -> that "everything in a circle filter" -> This on top of a layer of space

Still looks nice, though..

I wish I had the fire flower I made (and have as my PC background at home) to go with your fire panet..but I'm not at home..

That does look pretty cool, but I would try and add some actual technique into your works besides just filters.

Holy crap that is really close. It's render clouds - > plastic wrap - > Spherize - > Then another layer with a black background with noise.

EDIT: Flypie, I have done some stuff without filters, they just didn't turn out to good. Plus, there really isn't another way to make a planet without filters.

EDIT 2: This is the only semi-good thing I have made with out filters.

Make the image wider and put the planet off-center.

Ooh, make a lens flare. Is that in photoshop, or just illustrator? They are always good for space scenes. You could make the stars transparent and add a black layer behind it that has very dark blue, purple, or red clouds. It adds a bit more space-ness. You could even try taking that star layer, and apply colored noise on very low opacity to achieve slightly differently colored stars. Then, make 2 copies of that layer, and motion blur very slightly one on the x-axis and the other on the y-axis. That would make the stars have that shine that they typically appear to have in drawings. Final space-realism idea: add another very dark layer of the noise and put it in front of the black layer with the clouds. That is my vision for your filter-masterpiece.

a well respected CG site posted an article put together by some industry professionals a while back, i cant remember the website though. The article was about the top 10 worst things u can put in a portfolio, One of them involved NEVER using generic lens flare.

The one thing that bothered me was the space background. It was incredibly flat. The planet looks good, but the space background totally takes away from the picture.
