Default My Goverment

Ok, here it goes. All though I can't think of a name for it (possibly Computerized Communistic Democracy) I have a great Idea for a goverment that should cost very little to maintain (at best nothing) , and represents everyone.
In this goverment, There are four things that control it:
1. The Central Computer
2. The Police
3. The Union
4. The People

1: The Central computer essentially computes the best option in everything, figures out all economic things, like how much money to print, and also figures out the best option on other issues (except the ethical part). Except for the economy, the computer simply supplies a suggestion to the people. The computer does control the economy by itself in the sense that it prints money, set rates (like interest rates) etc. The computer is NOT an AI, and it can only be updated by a specially appointed policeman. Also the computer gets its input through the police, the police tell the computer the circumstances. Now as far as the computer, lets say its very sophisticated and possible to program. Also the computer handles the voting, though the voting section of the computer can be edited by the police, and doesn't require the special program editor. Also the computer is supposed to make sure the people know the extent of the issues, and make availible to the people all the laws stored in its databanks.

2. The police are mainly computer savy people, and some enforcers that make sure the voting system is done correctly, and that the wishes of the computer are taken out, and enforce laws (only if the people tell them to). The police give the Computer its input, make sure the voting is correct and everyone's vote is counted, and they are appointed through voting by the people. Thier term is 2 years, but the Union can force a policeman off the force, but a policeman has to serve at least a month, but during that month they have limited abilities. Now about the special policeman that can uprgrade the Central Computer: He must to have served at least one full term in the police force before they can run for this position. Also there does not have to be a central computer upgrader if the people vote to not have one in the elections.

3. The Union is, in effect, an organization that makes sure the police do thier job. The people that make up this organization are people that are from each region, each region has only one representative. These people has a term of 2 years, and a minimun of one month, as the people of each region can vote to get rid of thier representative, the people that make sure they leave are the police. The Union is not a congress and they do not meet. They simply are normal people that have a few more responsibilities, mainly voting and making sure the police do what they are supposed to do. They don't have a very demanding job, and they stay at thier homes, as I said they do not leave to anywhere.

4. The last piece is the people. Thier job is to, as a region, make sure anyone who breaks the law is taken care of, work for the good of thier region, help each other, and to vote on laws, and elect representators for the Union, and elect the police. Also they have the ability to get rid of thier representative, though only after they have spent a month in office.

Now the most important part: The Regions. Regions are a group of 1,000 people. Now you make think this would be impossible to regulate etc., but remember this is done by computer, and also Regions are to be 1,000 at the time of creation of this goverment, so kids wouldn't have to leave thier area, and to accomadate this, regions can grow in size. Now this is where the core idea of communism is implemented (also called Markism): Everyone in each Region is equal, and all of what thier work produces is given to the goverment, and the money the goverment makes off of what the region makes is given to the people, with a small part of it going to maintain the goverment, if the goverment is costing money to keep it going(this amount is calculated by the Central Computer). So the motivation to work is to make the whole region better (Another idea a friend gave me is to let each person decide how much to give the goverment, and through peer pressure and region pride(The computer also tries to get each region to compete with each other, so if a region works super hard, they would be the best, generate the most output, and be the richest) they would want to give the most. I forget the purpose in this but you make think of it.) A core thing is that no matter how poor a region gets, EVERYONE has a computer. This is a source of entertainment and how the elections work, people electronically vote (the police fight the hackers) and get the facts on the computer. Another thing is to make sure everyone is happy, the goverment (Central Computer and the Police Together) try to make sure everyone has something to please them, though noone recieves everything, unless of course thier region is generating extremely high output through work. As far as jobs go, the computer gives each region a list of what they can do with their region (what can be farms etc. depending on demand) and what jobs are needed, like the electricity, and water works. (School is to be done electronically to eleminate costs.)

Sorry If I left anything out, please leave any opinions and any problems you see.

Thanks for Reading,
BoccoBrock

If the police control all input, they also control all output. See an option you don't want the computer to take? Don't input it. Corruption is very likely in your police and the blind following of the people can allow them to gain far too much power. It's always dangerous to have someone else control the input your leader receives.

Now if your computer is the main point for this, what happens when someone hacks it? Policeman goes wrong? Chaos?

Well, I could simply have it also be the Unions job to check the calculations on thier computer, basically a second central computer but it is only controlled by the Union, and that this second Central Computer has no power, so if the Union see's an error they tell the people about it and the union considers Impeaching a policeman. So basically if a number is wrong the Union catches it, and If they can't figure out who did it, then they would report the correct numbers. Now if it is something like the economy and printing the money, the Union has the power to overrule the First Central Computer, but only if they get 2/3 of the vote of the effected area (Whether the incorrect number effects a certain region or the whole nation, those effected by the incorrect numbers would vote). thanks for the reply.

Too complicated and slow. What about both the Union and Police being corrupt?

So what if its a little complicated, its not as complicated as the US goverment, anyway its not slow, nothing is slow about it, electronic voting is done through the computer at home so representatives don't travel around, everyone gets notification through the computer of the issues and what the Central Computer thinks.

Also as far as both being corrupt, For the Police to be corrupt and continue to be corrupt the Union would have to be corrupt, but this doesn't work as Union representatives stay at home in thier community and the people are able to force thier union representatives out of office. But as far as the people not knowing that thier Union representative is corrupt, you simply have a random person in the 1,000 of each region checking the input and output. The people in each region will take turns making sure both the police and Union aren't working together. the chances that every Policeman, Representative, and the person randomly chosen would all be corrput is extremly unlikely and also since the selected person (one that checks Union/police input) takes turns and if the the turns are short enough corruption would be impossible. Now if a representative refuses to leave office and the police against them, well then you may have a problem, still working on that.

Thanks,
Boccobrock

I think we can all agree that there's no way in hell that this system could work (at the VERY least in American culture); after all, it has "computerized" and "communism" in its name. However, I think it's an interesting, well-thought-out proposal, though touting it as a "great" idea for a form of government is a bit of a stretch...

Question, who's programming the central computer again?

The one programming the Central computer initially doesn't really matter as long as they do a good job and they don't make it corrupt, but for revisions it is a specially elected policeman.
Also I don't think I ever said it was a great goverment, if I did then I didn't mean to. Also it is fine if you don't think its good, but please tell me any thing wrong with it, not just that you hate it.
And communism is stuck in there just to get people's attention, its bearly has anything in it about communism. A better name is probably Computerized Marxic Democracy.
Also for a judicial system, depends on if there is like a 99% accurate lie detector, then you simply have a few judges to determine the severity of the crime and have an investigative department of the police. If not then the judicial system we have now in the US would probably work.

The fact that one person would be programming the computer, as you said. Leaves for much speculation on the core of the goverment, the central computer. First of all no one person can decide or even think of every best option in every single situation. As for voting, why? They would just have to follow the computers instructions. And if there is no point in voting, then what you have here is a dictatorship/communist state. I know this has been said but yes the police system could very easily be corrupt, and now what can you do really? The computer isn't a concious being it can't capture the corrput policemen as the FBI or other government agencies can in the US.

I would suggest reading what I wrote carefully before posting: Yes I agree there probably should be mutlple programmers. So you just elect 5 or so policemen. The computer only makes decisions as far as economy, otherwise it just gives suggestions to the people, people voting is what creates laws, foriegn policy, etc. The computer can't catch the police of course, but thats why the Union exists, just read the union section of my first post.

This is too Liberal, Communist, Dictator...ish and just impossible.
Good intentions, but sorry, it won't fly.

=/

How about this.

In this goverment, there is one group that controls it:
1. The People

that doesn't work either. Everyone has a different opinion, no one agrees on everything, fighting, arguments, you name it, we have it, and we have it right now.

As with most governments, good idea in theory, but easily succeptible to corruption once applied. Not to mention the fact that if a hacker managed to get into the main computer, she/he could crash the whole economy...
minor problem... but not too much worse than whats happened in our country since g.dub's been in office...
