Default Functionalism and The Gestalt theory

Do they go hand-in-hand?

Yes/no/who gives a shit it is pyschology?

Comment would be awesome, and I will voice my own opinion when I get my thoughts collected.

Okay, I have my thoughts together.

*Ahem.*

Functionalism states that all behavior is learned, and nothing is a reaction. The Gestalt theory states that our behavior and the way we think acts in accordance with our surroundings. I think these theories, although different in some aspects, are exteremely alike in the fact that they both deal with nothing being solely ours; that everything we do is based off of something else; that there are no reactions.
I disagree with this entirely. There are things that we do and ways that we (as a human race) think of and about regardless of our surroundings, or what we have learned. For example: crying. No one learned how to cry, it just happens when you are overwhelmed with emotion, good or bad. When you are hungry, you eat. Granted, we were taught the art (for lack of a better word) of eating, but we knew to do it when we needed nurishment. When we have to pee, we pee. Again, potty training comes into play, but the body, in and of itself wil go when it needs to go.
In conclusion, I would like to say that I still have hope in human nature...but good ole William James had something else in mind.
There...an explanation, Guido. =)
