Post Court strikes down Internet pr0n law. (safe for work)

http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/interne....ap/index.html

Quote:
• Judge blocks law that would restrict online pornography
• 1998 law required porn sites to ask for proof user was over 18
• Judge: Parents could filter porn without restricting adults' rights
• Supreme Court upheld injunction blocking law in 2004
Pretty interesting article.

Discuss.

Did you actually read the article? Or understand it?

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A federal judge on Thursday dealt another blow to government efforts to control Internet pornography, striking down a 1998 U.S. law that makes it a crime for commercial Web site operators to let children access "harmful" material.
This means that they have struck it out, removed it. This means that is now not a crime for commercial web site operators to let children access harmful material. Read on:

Quote:
In the ruling, the judge said parents can protect their children through software filters and other less restrictive means that do not limit the rights of others to free speech.
Their reason basically states that they are removing the rule because parents can protect their children through other means, such as software. This way they are not stopping websites from having free speech.

All in all this is allowing more freedom for porn sites, and will mean that free internet porn should end up being more widely available due to less restrictive laws.

In fact, what you quoted:

Quote:
• Judge blocks law that would restrict online pornography
• 1998 law required porn sites to ask for proof user was over 18
• Judge: Parents could filter porn without restricting adults' rights
Point 1: He blocks the law, so it not restricted.
Point 2: This law is the one that could be removed / is removed now.
Point 3: Parents can filter porn their own way. Websites can do what they want. Free speech and all.

So what do you think? Could this be the end of free internet porn (for those under 18 of course)?

I personally think this'll never pass, I think for proof of you being over 18 you would have to enter your credit card number, and that could cause a lot of problems.

Apparently you didn't read the article. The whole point is that the law is unconstitutional....

Plus, you cannot eliminate vice, it is most people's reason to get up in the morning. Porn is one of the many vices people are so strongly addicted to.

First of all, don't bump old topics like this, -especially- when you have NOTHING interesting to post.

"Porn needs to go" is -never- a suitable reason to bump a three-month-old thread.

It's even worse when you respond to an awful bump with an awful post. Even if this has been bumped to death, say -something- worthwhile. Not just an insult to fat people and an agreement.

Yeah, just as there are skinny people who need it and people with girlfriends/boyfriends who need it, and everything inbetween -__- Is it cool to have no sexual desire or something? I'd consider that a little weird, and I'd probably try to get some help if I lost all attraction and sexual desires one day :/

Well, non-sexuals (Who often brutally misuse the word asexual when describing themselves) are at least existing in large enough numbers to have LJ communities and so on. I've known a few myself.

This is not critical thinking, the "long and angry" is the part we actually want to read, not some baseless opinion.

Yeah, so people who just break up and then the next day are depressed and don't want to think about anything sexual like masturbating are completely insane and should go get help.

Gotcha.

Oh, there are exceptions to nearly everything.

However, I find it a little difficult to believe there is even one person who has absolutely no sexual feelings at all. Not even weak ones. I'm sure there are some, but it's difficult to believe.

I mean, there's a huge difference between "never" and "maybe a weak feeling once a month or so."

Would you shut up. It's your own fault. I should've blocked you on the forums as well, but I forgot.

Pornography is one of the most addictive and powerful substances known to man. It can cause sexual feelings that con control and rule peoples lives. It can be traced back to almost rape cases. Honestly I think porn should be illegal.

Personally, I think rape cases would just go up if porn were made illegal :/ And a lot would arise just to prove a point.

Do you have any idea how hard it would be to take the current state of the internet and take out all pornography?

Keep the internet free! What's after pornography?
Why do you care what others do by themselves out of public?

I'm honestly surprised that the court took off their "moral" blinders and found this unconstitutional. Yay them!

I think that Pornography should be illegal to all minors.

I dont care about what people do by themselves. But I do care what they do when pornography isn't enough and need to take there sexual experience to another level.
