Here's a bit of logic I've been toying with for some time
and would be interested in others point of view. I often wonder about the meaning of life. Well, more to the point what everything goes to serve. I mean we (apparently) are surrounded by infinitely complex systems of organisms that all function based upon a set of physical rules. Everything around us seems to be working so busily, all in co-operation with each other. But for what reason do they all co-operate, all function in unison. One thing part of something bigger, part of something bigger. I realised that you could perhaps work out what they all serve. All you have to do is find the thing that is at the top. The thing that serves nothing but itself and everything serves. It then occurred to me, conciseness. Conciseness serves nothing but itself and all things in the universe cause its creation. Everything in the universe creates something to think about, a problem to solve. The whole universe functions to create information, and the processing of that information results in consciousness. So it occurred to me that I could use this to asses the value of my actions as it relates to universal purpose. i.e. the more consciousness I create the more value of my action. So how do you create consciousness. Well you just break it down in to is core components. The way I see it, consciousness at its most simplistic form is making a decision. Its having options and using what you want and what you know to chose the one which will satisfy the most of the requirement your subconscious imposes. I mean there is a lot more complicated stuff I could go into but I want to keep it simple so its easier to understand. So for consciousness to exist there must be decisions. For there to be decisions there must be options. So the more options the more decisions. The more decisions the more consciousness. From this I concluded that for your actions to have the most value I should aim to create and have as many different experiences as I can in my life and thus create the most amount of consciousness. Any thoughts? Specforces

Af course a human would think that was the purpose of life; that's the only way we know how to see the world. The real purpose may be beyond our comprehention. But you've got a pretty good philosophy of life there. The only problem is when you die and that consciousness is lost to you. Ceasing to exist is a scary thing.

In another great display of human arrogance and igorance we have once again assumed their is a purpose to the universe and that we play a part in it or have to understand it. In my opinion the universe just is, no purpose just existance. It is somewhat a foolish idea to attach meaning to existance, only humans with their need for a purpose have to do this. I do, however, understand the psychological need to slap existance onto everything, it gives people a reason to live, for without a purpose to life their is no reason to live. Also, in my opinion, ceasing to exist is not that scary of a thing. Its, well,...nothing.

Interesting thoughts, I remember, my threads are not necessarily thoughts that reflect my personal opinion.

We will cease to exist. When we do, consciousness doesn't matter. Maybe having the greatest impact on those who remain is our goal...but when we cease to exist, will we care? Stop worrying about and follow the masses =P.
