ok, this is half critical thinking and half frustration venting... bear with me through the latter.
WHY DO WE HAVE MORONS FOR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES?? Instead of people wanting to vote for candidates, we have people choosing the lesser of evils, so to speak. This really frustrates me. It seems like all we have are old farts who only care for public image and are playing off quick slogans to land them the presidency. I think we need new blood in the senate and presidency, I mean, it makes sense that they'll care more for the future if they're actually ALIVE in it. Not only that, but younger presidents have been largely successful in history. Look at JFK and Clinton (ignore the sex scandals for minute, just look at their record as presidents) JFK brought about great changes in civil liberties and had mass popular support, Clinton actually made a dent in the deficiet (forgive misspellings). I can't say I've done tons of research on these two, so I admit my argument could be made better, but at a quick look, younger presidents have done far better than older ones. Unless I'm mistaken, which is possible (I haven't voted so I don't know exactly how ballots work), we have the ability to write in the name of a candidate we'd like to vote for. There's great potential in this. Through organization, local movements would be able to select who they wanted to be in the senate/house/presidency rather than pick from a list simply given to them. I'll stop now, before I vent more than argue, but I'd like to pull a quote from Plato's "The Republic" that applies, somewhat. (this is from memory, so it's probably not verbatim) "If you can develop a better position than 'office-holding' for your future rulers, then a well-governed city becomes a possibility. For only in such a state will those rule who are truly rich, not in gold, but in the wealth that makes happiness, a good and wise life." (and yes, I got that from Sid Mier's Alpha Centuari... great game, lots of good quotes) |

but let's face it... it's not like people terribly love Bush at this point in time. I mean, he hasn't done anything but increse the deficiet, oust Saddam and bomb Afghanistan. The only thing he had going for him was the wave of patriotism that popped up after 9/11 and even now that's dying out.
Which brings me back to my original statement... we have nobody running for president that we really want to support. Hardliners are fine with their political parties, but short of that common people don't care at all the candidates. (I know I'm making some generalizations here, so I'd like some feedback about how everybody feels about our candidates, if it turns out I'm wrong, then I am) |

Exactly, he even grew his hair out like a hippy too. Sure, they say he was a war hero, but anybody can be hit by some buckshot in the ass and survive.
