Default dang windows media player

I really don't know if anyone knows the answer to my problem, but it's worth a shot asking.

My OS is Windows Vista. The problem is that every time I insert something into one of my computer's ports, whether it be a flash drive/external hard drive, a printer, my camera, or inserting an SD card into its slot, Windows Media Player automatically opens up. Everything functions normally, but WMP also seems to want to associate itself with any external device that the computer recognizes. It's completely unrelated and senseless for WMP to do that.

Sooo, does anyone know what's wrong? Is it some wacky registry file that's mistakenly associating WMP with any external device the computer recognizes?

edit: Windows Media Player will also open once you remove the external device from your computer. Basically, any recognition of a new external device, whether it's adding or removing it, will cause WMP to open up automatically.

edit 2: AutoPlay settings in the Control Panel should make WMP heed to certain protocols, but WMP completely ignores this and still opens up. That's why I think this is some buggy issue instead.
