Counter argument: How many of these people that you "have been around, counting family", have you been in regular communication with? To include numbers on people that are part of the equation, but derive results based on only a portion of them because you can't keep within communication terms of those people, say e.g. people you pass on the street, is a fallacy. What's your sample size? If it's less than a huge margin, like around 100, then you will continue to have these doubts about it being a real thing until it directly affects or kills someone in the circle of people you have 'regular communication' with.

This is just a shitty dismissal of the virus as a comparison to the flu. Covid-19 has not been around since pre 2000, the flu has. But, also in reflection of that, there has almost always been a vaccine or treatment for the flu, there is NO TREATMENT for Covid-19. If you can't see why Covid-19 is more deadlier because of its affects, take into consideration that it's more deadlier because WE HAVE NO MEDICAL MEANS TO TREAT IT beyond curing symptoms. AND EVEN THEN, risk of death is high if you have the underlying symptoms and are severe enough to require admittance to a hospital. They can help with the symptoms of not being able to breathe, but they can't help cure the virus like they can with the flu.

Can read more about similarities and differences from WHO here: https://www.who.int/westernpacific/n...-and-influenza

I think TC_Halogen added a fair amount of fire to this argument already on this bit, but to add my own fire:

George (25, same age as me) was one of the people that I knew and was in 'regular communication' with at a food bank, that was helping people in my local community due to job loss. He died back in April from Covid-19. He felt off one day after helping people at the food bank, and stayed home for a couple days. I did not hear back from him after that until I got an announcement from the food bank to honor his memory, as he had passed away.

I used to work at a gas station back before March and had a boss named Malcolm (23). We both decided to leave the job together at the beginning of March, simply because he wasn't making any money from it, and because of Covid. I texted him 2 weeks later after we both left, and asked if I could apply for CERB (Canada-Covid relief) because of the situation, and said yes, and also mentioned that he might not be moving back to London quite yet, because he was rather sick. I followed up with a text to him a month later, asking if he's feeling any better, to which he shared a terrible story about how he caught Covid, was confined for two weeks, would not be accepted to the hospital out of fear of spreading, and the entire time felt like he was breathing with razor blade heads stuck in his throat, above his lungs. How coughing up blood was a semi-common occurrence that happened 3-4 times. How he would only get 2-3 hours of sleep per night from chest pains on par with severe heartburn, and being unable to breathe when he woke up and had to immediately gasp for air for 10-15 minutes like he inherited the worst asthma in the world. He said that he wouldn't wish this even upon his worst enemy, and people refusing to wear masks out there are killing people in the worst ways imaginable.

Everyone is AT RISK of contracting the virus. Whether you die or not from it, somewhat depends on pre-existing conditions. Why in the ever-lasting fuck would you ever chance that? I am not going to chance myself dying because of some pre-existing condition that I may or may not know I had. Older people have higher chances of dying because they've lived longer, and have higher chances to have such pre-existing conditions. I'd rather fucking wear a mask to protect myself and others instead of going back to the 1940's when it was common to expire an early death from polio at 35.

Please link to article. Also, if true, 'almost impossible' does not imply 'impossible'. We also live in a society where people go to work even when sick, because they need to make ends meet money-wise. It breeds more cases to not take necessary precautions, and with a second wave in reported cases happening, that means even more now than several months ago.

WHO's chief scientist, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, claims that the world will most likely not be able to return to 'pre-covid' conditions of life until 2022. This is bound to only get worse, and more strained out, with people like yourself, spreading misinformation and encouraging return to pre-covid society before its due time. Frankly, it is absolutely disgusting that you would use CDC and WHO to attempt to push your own ideology on the subject, and pray for the well-being of family members related to you that have to put up with your bullshit.
