[038] VEILSTONE GYM [MW038]
===============================================================================
Items: TM60 Drain Punch, Cobble Badge
Trainers' Pokemon: Machoke L23, Machoke L25, Machoke L27, Machop L25, Meditite
L25, Machoke L25, Croagunk L26, Machoke L26, Heracross L28

Veilstone Gym is another gym that has been revamped with a new puzzle - this
time you must now push punching bags instead of the slider things and it can
get a bit annoying at times. To begin with, head to the left of the orange
punching bag hanging just in front of the raised ring and push against it to
have it swing over to the right and smash the tyres (?) that are stacked there
allowing you to go through. Do so, climb onto the stadium, and fight the gym
trainer here. Once you defeat him, go back down the steps you came up from
and go behind the punching bag here (despite first appearances you can walk
in these tiles - you are actually under the pole thingy) and push it so that
it clips on to the next orange part on the top pole. Keep doing this until
it will no longer move, then push the punching bag that is now right next to
it upwards as well to smash some more tyres.

Go onto the second stadium and defeat this gym trainer as well. Go down the
steps on the other end and battle the third gym trainer, who finally uses
something that is not a Machop, Machoke or Meditite. Afterwards, go over the
left side and battle the fourth and final gym trainer in Veilstone. Then we
can start working on the punching bag puzzle once more.

Push the punching bag next to the fourth trainer down once, then push it to
the right to break another bunch of tyres. Afterwards, go to the bottom right
bag (the one that is slightly higher than the bottommost one) and push it once
upwards, then to the left, and then down to give it the force it needs to hit
the bunch of tyres here enough to break them. Use the newly formed gap to get
at the now accessible bottom punching bag and push it up and then right from
where it locks onto the pole. Lastly, go back up the top right stadium and from
the stairs downwards go north and around (since you can actually go behind the
punching bag there) and push this northern punching bag to the left to break
more tyres. Push it to the left once more to break all the tyres, then cross
back over the top right stadium and go in between the training boards to the
last punching bag. Push it once to the right to break the tyres in front of
Maylene. Lastly, approach the top right stadium, get on the steps then go north
to finally arrive on Maylene's platform. Save and begin.

Personally this gym battle was an absolute goldmine for me because my team is
so strong against Fighting-types, but it may not be the same for you. Having a
Staravia or if you've really been training a Staraptor will help with this
fight considerably as you will be able to deal super effective damage on both
Meditite and Machoke, the former of which is very frail. Having a Psychic-type
such as Gardevoir or Kadabra/Alakazam will also help considerably with this
fight, and certainly with the Lucario too if you taught your Psychic the Focus
Blast TM that you could get in the Veilstone dept store.

Overall it isn't too hard of a battle. Remember to note that Lucario has Steel
typing alongside its Fighting - this means it is resistant to a plethora of
types and also makes Psychic non-effective (neutral) but it also means that
Lucario is weak to Fire, Fighting and Ground moves, so using some of them on
Lucario is a possile option. It has Force Palm and Metal Claw attacks which are
relatively weak (though be warned that Force Palm CAN paralyze your Pokemon).
Thankfully it doesn't have Aura Sphere so it shouldn't be too hard to take
down. Type matching is always the solution with these matters.

After winning against Maylene you will now have four badges, meaning Pokemon
from anywhere up to Level 50 will obey you without hestitation. Trading can
actually be pretty useful at this point because you will most likely not be
reaching Level 50s for a long while yet and probably not before you get your
sixth badge granting you control over Level 70 Pokemon, too.

Anyway, exit the gym once the fight is over and done with. We still have some
work to do in Veilstone because Dawn/Lucas is an idiot...
