The video game "HONG KONG '97" is well known as a terrible, offensive video game, but it is generally misunderstood by gaming audiences. Clever and biting, the game was deliberately designed to be awful to satirize aspects of the mainstream video game industry. It was convincing enough that people took it seriously, which is a testament to how well the developers were able to bastardize common gaming conventions, but not brazenly enough to be seen through as parody.
