It takes vastly more effort to improve one-handed than two. There is a transition period when switching from one-handed to spread, but within a couple of months at most you'll have reached the level you were at one-handed. Plus, the skill cap at one-handed play is much lower than two-handed play. Not saying it's impossible to get good one-handed (Bynary Fission, plus (formerly) SK8R43 and Bluearrowll come to mind) but they are the exception rather than the rule, plus there will never be a D7 one-handed player. So all in all, it's in your best interest to switch.
