Just reading wikipedia, the current definition of a fahrenheit seems to be "The temperature scale for which the freezing point of water is at 32 degrees, and boiling point is at 212 degrees".
I am baffled. This definition is even more random than I expected.
Edit: the 0 point of the unit was defined by a salt+ice solution of some Polish dude. Why does the US still support this ridiculous unit

specifically that solution is brine which is kinda useful at least
the stupider one is the 100 F reference, which i've always heard is the empirical temperature of fahrenheit's wife's armpit
you only need two reference points to define your own temperature scale. we did it in middle school
