Fill In the Holes I
Cancelled
The Name of This Game
Is pretty terrible. It is based off a game called "one minute mysteries" that usually takes place with a large group of people irl (and it usually goes by quickly although typically it takes a lot longer than a minute). If anyone else has suggestions after reading the rules, I'll happily change the name of the game.
Overview
This is a detective game. I will give you a story, the majority of which end in someone's death. However, such a story will be incomplete and it will be your job to fill in the details to explain why the death (or whatever the event) occured. This is done by asking the host yes or no questions to gather a better understanding of the events that took place. Note that the full story is already thought out ahead of time, before the start of the game. Here is a short, simple example:
Format
I will first post the starting story, then start the first round. Sign-ups will end at the end of the first round.
For each round, each participant will PM me two yes-or-no questions: a public question and a private question. The public question and I will answer and I will post the question and answer in the thread for everyone to see. The private question I will directly PM you the answer. The public questions will allow people to bounce ideas off each other and the private questions will allow people to keep some information to themselves which might be a useful strategy for winning.
You are free to do whatever you want with the answer you get from the private question: you may post it in the forums, you can trade private information with others, etc. The only exception to this rule is that winners are not allowed to help players in any way once they have won (note that there will be 2nd and 3rd place prizes as well).
There are no eliminations, participants will only be removed if they fail to submit for the round.
Rounds will last 3 days, with the exception of the first round which will last a week to allow for signups.
You are free to PM your questions at any point in the round. I will answer them as soon as possible. Deciding to ask your questions early or late into the round is a strategy for you to decide.
A player wins if they are able to provide the full story. This must be in the form of a question and this question functions like any other question (i.e. it will be a question that you will use for the round). I strongly advise for you to provide the full story under a private question. I reserve the right to judge whether your full story is close enough to the full story that I have in mind.
I reserve the right to respond with something other than "yes" or "no" if I feel it is appropriate. For example, if someone asks, "Was the murder weapon big?", I might respond with, "Can you define "big"?".
This thread may be used to publicly discuss things and to bounce ideas off each other. Whether you want to bounce your thoughts off people, form teams, or keep to yourself, that strategy is for you to decide.
