In England, the majority of schools start at 9:00 - 9:30. School usualy ends at 4:30 - 5:00. I have experianced English and American education. I find that the English system of waking up later, ends up in people wanting to go home early, and not bothering with extra activities. Whereas the beauty of the American system is that it ends early, so you can do activives after the school session.

When I was an American school system, I actually found myself half asleep in the lessons. I blame myself though for going to bed too late. I think you can counter being tired in lessons by just getting proper sleep.
