The system is completely screwed, people who make these threats seriously need professional help and counseling, not jail time. And anonymous comments, especially made as a joke (even in bad taste) or in the heat of the moment shouldn't be punished nearly to the extent that they are. Disciplining is in order, but not sentencing that can be compared to being charged for murder.
The amount of people in jail for non-violent crimes is ridiculous, its a stupid band-aid fix, instead of dealing with the root of the problem, just lock it away and forget about it. Its a world where you can commit large scale corporate fraud and ruin the lives of thousands if not millions of people, and get off with fines you pay with ill-gotten gains. But if you grow a little pot on the side, or in this case; make a bad joke, meet your new roommate Bubba and say good by to any decent job opportunities in your future.
