Default Re: A list of all Major Simfile Packs for StepMania v2

Just giving this a bump to let people know this is hardly dead, although we did run out of any real places to pull packs from to upload (that we know of).

Over the past couple of days I have been doing a full scale Indeed to SMO SM pack comparison, and recently finished the rough manual observations. If you want to see what I am talking about, you can take a look at it here, and marvel at how many packs both of us are missing from each other. It will probably take qqwerf a while to manually index all of these missing packs, but after that SMO will be getting a fairly large amount of packs from him, and we will both be evened out. Until then though, unfortunately you'll only be able to download a mere 1337 packs from the SMO downloads page, spanning only 177.2 GB.

It should be also noted that I found a bunch of pack errors on the SMO downloads page after all the manual comparing, and those have been resolved. There were cases of small "packs" with no mp3's, single song "packs", duplicates, and multiple packs placed within a single file; feels good to get these cleaned up. I also fixed the classifications of about 100 packs from "Keyboard" to "Pad", so now things should be a lot less confusing to those looking at the Dance Dance Revolution section.

Of course, this is just the work on my end, which pales in comparison to what has been going on with packs on SMO! Here are the two big things regarding SM packs that have been recently implemented over there:

Reverse Simfile Pack Searching

Now, along with all of the other statistics that a given songs page had, SMO finds and lists all the packs a given song can be found within. If you search for a song, and it has been played at least once before, you will notice there is a list of packs the song is included within on the page. Pack types have also been color coded (blue for solo, green for keyboard, and orange for pad / hybrid) so you can find a version sutible for your play style with ease.

It should be noted that this feature cannot detect different simfiles, only packs that have the song itself within them titled as such. So if you are looking for a file made by a specific step author, you should use Indeed's song search for that. This is no replacement for detailed information held at Indeed, it is just a tool to find packs that have songs people may be playing on SMO, or to try out various versions of a song file from different packs.

Pack aware server

Houkou really pulled through here and found an effective workaround that allows for SMO to identify essentially every single pack you have that it has in the database, and allow for you to have this information stored on the server! If you enter a room, you can use the /scan command to allow for SMO to check what packs it thinks you have (through a method check of using pack unique songs), and will record this information upon completion (it may take a minute or two depending on your distance from the server). After this, you can play with others and use the command /commonpacks to check out exactly what packs you can play with each other! If a person hasn't used /scan, it will display a message saying that the particular user needs to run /scan before this can be used. Packs are still being abbreviated for the sake of space, so you may get a blank value or two for the next couple of days while this is taking place, but for the most part this is ready to go. Now playing with others will be a breeze, because you can find out at anytime exactly what packs everyone has in common (so if you are in a room with more than one other person the usefulness of this command exponentially increases). So now, even playing with a bunch of strangers will no longer be a hassle, because with a single command, you'll know what the entire room has in common to play.

So yeah, we're hardly dead. Things are just starting to get real good...
