That's why we have locks in the first place????

You wouldn't leave your car unlocked either. But if someone wanted to break in, they could. They could do the same to your house-- if they had the intention of breaking in and it's locked, the chances of success are dimmed but if someone has that intent, they're likely going to find a way to do it, locked or not. Just making their job easier.
