Anyway, MLP doesn't have the violence Powerpuff Girls had, and there isn't a whole lot of anger (like in Dexter's Lab), so I don't get it. Do I need to watch more episodes?

We did, and we've established that the first two episodes of each season are more "Sailor-Moon-ey". The following episodes are sitcom/slice of life...ey. I suggest you watch a couple more episodes, and if you don't like it, at least you gave it a whirl.
