Re: KeyBeatOnline.com
We're working on that part.
Currently we're in a search for someone to be a "simfile chief" or something to this effect. This would allow stargroup the ability to work on important features like the difficulty algorithm without being bogged down by simfile projects.Comment

Re: KeyBeatOnline.com
As the lead game designer and the person who insisted strongly on this decision, I want explain why I don't this particular statistic visible to the public.
Games are addictive and drive people to return because of the rewards players feel when playing the game and the goals they are aiming for. A high rank in grand total indicates primarily one particular factor: time spent on the game. It is an irrelevant mechanic that artificially attaches people to the game, similar to the achievement lists for a lot of games on Steam. I don't want people striving for this kind of goal. KBO is a game that is very particular about the way it is designed and structured, and I want people to enjoy and pay attention to that without distracting goals that don't contribute to the game itself. I want the reward to be the enjoyment one feels in the connection between the game and the music, not an artificial title such as "grand total."Rhythm Simulation Guide

Re: KeyBeatOnline.com
Having all the dumb stats you can think of is what drives a competitive gaming atmosphere. You want people to feel accomplished regardless of what they actually did. If the problem is a stagnant community, you want to bring as many people in as you can. Therefore, you want to appeal to all different kinds of people. Ergo, put the silly grand total score in the game and you'll get more players.Back to "Back to Earth"

Yes, we really need as many "pointless" rankings as possible. Even though I know what they do (make me want to play), I still fall for them.Having all the dumb stats you can think of is what drives a competitive gaming atmosphere. Re: KeyBeatOnline.com
I'm literally almost online all day on MSN, but every time I nudge you, you never reply back.
I'm standing by my position of not adding in statistics/goals/mechanics such as grand total.
I believe there are other ways of getting more players without having to stoop that low, such as achievements (that are meaningful, such as getting a certain rank on a set). I am also not opposed to a statistic such as "ranked total for the week," because at least that is temporary.Rhythm Simulation Guide

Re: KeyBeatOnline.com
When you're the lead of a project (or part of it, in this case), you have to have a clear goal and concept in mind. Whatever happens, you have to make sure you stick to it.
I can't possibly make everyone happy, and it's not realistic to listen to every suggestion that's been given to me. I know exactly what I want to see for Keybeat, so I'll accept suggestions that fit into what I want to see, but I'm not going to change my concepts and vision simply because a handful of people said so.
Stubborn I might be, but stubborn I must.Rhythm Simulation Guide
