You're not being traditional per se. It's just there are certain times and/or places where swearing is inappropiate, meaning you'll offend people, embarrass yourself, or embarrass the people around or associated with you (like your example).

I know I look stupid sometimes for swearing in table tennis. But I also make my friends laugh at it by doing it in silly ways, and I'm not serious/angry about it. I get frustrated and if I do end up get really frustrated, I kind of shut my mouth and keep quiet.

I might throw my paddle too. XD Yes, that does look stupid. At least I'm not like these one 'tards who were whipping the paddles from the front desk all over the place, smacking the table with them, and nearly hitting many people throughout the hour or so they were playing whenever they threw their paddle. It was rediculous.

So like that paddle example, swearing can vary a lot in degree and form.
