First of all, the students are stupid for giving out the photos.

Second, people who commit murder and other horrific acts get less time.

Third, 300 years? Why not give him life?

Because this hurts every single family involved not just the victims but there friends and people around town and in school. All the students will probably have to transfer and everything. Its a horrible crime, 300 years is adding up all the years together, since there is no life term for this crime, they have to do it that way. Each family presses charges, not just like in a murder case were one does.
