Er...I'm going to disagree with you on that one...(God I hate to back Owl...)
I've just gotten a copy of DDR max and a pad...and well, my pad sucks. I have to look down to make sure I'm centered all the time. So having stuff hit on the beat is very importnat.
If I have a string of arrows comming up I can look at them, then see where I'm stepping then look up again and usually perfect out the sequence...it works on the easy levels anyway (I'll have to velcro down my pad soon, as I'm getting higher in difficulty)
But having the arrows on the beat means alot...otherwise, why is it a dance game at all. Lets just screw the music and have strings of arrows come up. (that's melodramatic...sorry).
I'm personally not a visual player...I'll never beat skellybones...
