I dunno about that "humans can create a new species just by artificially adding chromosomes to existing humans" thought. Especially since humans that were naturally born with extra chromosomes are labelled "retarded". Down Syndrome and other horrible diseases are caused by lacking/having extra chromosomes.

Regarding a superior species, though....
For the most part, I believe evolution (through genetic mutation) has occurred as adaptation to one's environment. In developed countries, we can artificially control our environment to be comfortable, so we don't need to change ourselves. We already attribute "superhuman" status to those who live in extreme environments which they cannot alter, such as Andes mountain dwellers, Eskimos, and the like, because of the features they have evolved. Evolutionary changes like that are small, and we're content to just label people with noticeably better features as freaks or products of their environments. Either they'll reproduce within their culture or die out, so the rest of us won't get their good genes, and we'll be as we always were, or their genes will slowly spread so that we all evolve rather equally. Therefore, we may all evolve without noticing, and the relative equality of that evolution won't scare us or anything.

However, if people are born who can fly and shoot lasers out of their eyes, I'll agree with alain that we'll wipe them out due to fear.
