It's fairly incorrect to say socialism works in theory, because it just doesn't. It assumes people will not sin, will not want, will not have a problem being ordered around. The theory is one based on a false reality that cannot exist while there are independent nations, or while people want there to be. Socialism promotes the utopian society, which cannot be on Earth. If Earth is heaven, heaven is not.
Besides, in order to actually be able to begin practicing socialist doctrines, the socialists must first take over the control of the country in question and begin giving orders. All people must bow before the (temporarily) totalitarian regime. For any country to become socialist, it must first be communist. Because communism is so ill-received, the communist regime must stay in power long enough to eliminate all threats the the governed society. What you have is an indefinite stay of communism in the goal of attaining socialism. It's inherently unreasonable and will not work. End of story.
The same situation in the above paragraph applies equally well to anarchy. One must rally people together in a form of military so as not to be instantly annexed by a country that actually has a government. The moment you have that military and leaders taking charge of it, you have a basic governing body, and you are no longer anarchist. So that school of thought is entirely self-contradictory.
CAPITALISM OWNZ j00!
