Yes, if your toon is 60^ it will put you right at 600, so there is no catch up per se, but you might be able to use those plants and make quite a bit of gold off of flask mastery or transmute mastery...

Go for flex, the absolute worse thing you can do in a flex is leave during a fight (er be bad, but that's besides the point, I'm sure you can play), because of flex's ability to drop and gain players...
