I wanna know...
...how to make the white in a picture transparent. I have a picture that has a white background and I want it to be transparent instead. So it could fit in another picture well.
I have both GIMP and Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Answers? |
Re: I wanna know...
Get the magic wand tool and select the background.
Press delete. Once you're finished, save as a .gif. |
Re: I wanna know...
Basically what sarah said.
I prefer .png or at least .jpeg if you'd like a more color-detailed avatar though. '.gif' will minimize the picture to a 256-color limitation, making it look course and unattractive. But if you still want to use .gif, dither it so it'll look much nicer. |

If the wand happens to go into the picture, just get the eraser and do it manually. Then proceed with the magic wand tool. Quote:

What I do is duplicate the layer if the background layer is locked. Then I delete the locked background layer and work with the duplicated one. After using the Magic Wand tool, make sure you have "Contiguous" clicked. ;] EDIT: About the jpeg: Whoops. I forgot about that. |
Re: I wanna know...
When you go to make your new document, simply change the background content to transparent, this will make it have no background, then save it as a .png and your done.
