Rock Band 2

We all knew it was going to happen, but it has officially been announced. The game will release in September (before GH:WT). IGN's interview with Dan Teasdale keeps many details in the dark (saving the big stuff for E3 maybe?) but also sheds light on some important issues.

-The Rock Band franchise will be the first to have cross-title DLC, so all of your purchases up to this point will still be valid and RB1 will still have DLC support.
-UI has improved for party-style playing.
-Online BWT is hinted at
-A music creator similar to GH:WT's seems to not be included, although it seems like a project that they are working on.
-Instruments are said to have been improved. All RB1 compatible instruments will still be compatible.
-An instrument+vocal mode seems to be in the works.
-A freestyle mode is hinted at.
-120 songs including AC/DC!!!

We all knew it was going to happen, but within 3 months? Nice job, HMX.

I'd still rather buy GH4, Guitar Hero always has better music.

Look how creative they are, what amazing new graphics and its not the same exact thing at all amirite.

Guitar Hero 3's tracklist was utter garbage. I think three out of thirty-something bonus songs didn't suck and were fun to play. The main tracklist was largely old ****, boring ****, and just plain garbage.

Rock Band's tracklist is very different, namely because there's only two songs that I don't play ever (Paranoid is one, Day Late Dollar Short is two). I play almost the entire disk. This versus GH, where I never play over half of their tracks. Yeah, GH's song list is way better.

Also, besides the difficult to see hammer-ons, RB's interface was flawless. No point changing it.

I hate the rockband guitar and the way the hammer ons are, hence why I only play the drums.

Rock Band can have a lot of other good stuff, I downloaded all the Metallica, Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold songs from the PS store, they need more of that, instead of all this Pixies and Weezer bull**** easy crap.

But now that i think of it, Rock Bands songs do own the **** out of GH o.o

I agree with these. I hate the RB guitar cuz you cant hear yourself strum and that helps me alot. GH and RB go 50-50 back and fort on best songs. It will be a tuff battle for me to determine which is better by getting GH4 and seeing for myself. Although, how is it GH when it has the whole band in it like RB. Not GH anymore.

yup, http://kotaku.com/5020463/acdc-comin...-2-survey-says

Also, some dude just posted on RB SH this list:

Chop Suey - Soad
One Step Closer - Linkin Park
Peace Sells - Megadeth
Testify - RAGM
Everlong - Foo Fighters
American Woman - The guess who? (I think)
White Wedding - Billy Idol
You Oughta Know - Alanis Morissette
Aqua Lung - Jethro Tull
Bad Reputation - Joan Jett
We got the beat - ???
Nirvana - Drain You
Man in the Box - Alice in Chains
Spoon Man - Soundgarden

from his playtest (HMX invited Boston-area players to playtest "a new 4-instrument game" before they had officially announced RB2). Either he's lying or he just violated a NDA and will get sued for the leak :) Either way that list is pretty kickass, and follows logically with the bands who are just now getting into the RB/GH scene (as in the ones already announced for GHWT and RR).

2 songs there that are good. Megadeth and Chop Suey

:O

if you don't think Spoon Man and Man in the Box are good... well... you hurt my feelings :(

All of the other stuff is decent, good for people who like those bands at least.

EDIT: also from G4 (cap'd through TiVo)
Panic Attack - Finger Eleven/Dream Theater?
Chop Suey - System of a Down
Give It Away - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Everlong - Foo Fighters
Kids in America - Kim Wilde
Ace of Spades - Motorhead
Hello There - Cheap Trick
Any Way You Want It - Journey
Pinball Wizard - The Who

which seemed to be a setlist picture (AtST and MtaF had the DLC icon beside them)

BWT and the UI in general have been overhauled, just the extent is not known considering the game was announced two days ago and the developers have not released a great deal of info. E3 should bring the juicy info.

They still haven't unveiled the drums yet, and they did say there would be a specific improvement to it. I just hope they charted the old songs for DLC with a tablature-type chart that the game would interpret rather than a straight hardcode. This way, they can take the notes the DLC had and put them on different colored pads if it makes more sense on a more robust drum kit (which I am sure they have, even if it's not as robust as I've been so vocal about my desires for).

I'm glad SoaD is gonna be getting in on the mix, though. Just the other day I was blasting Toxicity and I was reminded of how amazing the songs would be to play. Literally every single song on that album would be fun as hell, and the only downside I can see is the vocals being hard or not as fun (particularly parts where Mr. Tankian and Mr. Malakian share vocal duty, or the screaming).

ps i just want to echo what others have said: RB has the MOST AMAZING OVERALL SOUNDTRACK EVER, while GH tends to have some great songs and a ton of crap.

The tabs thing is actually brilliant. After all... you do see that the drummer in-game is ALWAYS playing the correct piece of the kit, regardless of what the pads are doing. They even have it down to details like hi-hat pulsing, open hat, bells on cymbals...

When you take that into account... I really hope that there's a 6 pad set or a second pedal. Having a drum update and two-hundred tracks to start the game with is going to kick ridiculous amounts of ass.

I actually had not considered what the in game player plays. Aside from the scrolling notes and UI, the screen could be black for all I know.

Good one, my taste in music cannot be wrong, because everyone has a different taste in music.

Now this list has some good music, I don't think Panic Attack is going to be Dream theater, prob Finger Eleven. Dream Theater would be the **** on Drums since Mike Portnoy uses lots of double bass.
