So the Catholic church has been investigating internally into child abuse cases, and it turns out that 4450 priests have been accused of molesting 11,000 minors since 1950.

That's one child every two days for fifty years.

Now, if people found out that a large corporation had sexually abused one child every couple of days (or, hell, one child a week) for the past fifty years, every single fucker in that organisation would be behind bars or beaten to death by angry mobs in the streets.

If people found out a country's government had been molesting little kids for the past 50 years and covering it up wish hush money and lies the population would be hunting each politician down to instruct them in the ways of vigilante justice and immense and immediate pain.

But because this is the Catholic fucking Church, everyone has shrugged and turned away.

Time to burn the Vatican, I say.

Need I say more.

Priests are being criminally proscecuted in the United States. In addition, the Church is repeatedly losing civil lawsuits. The government has also required the church to implement measures to prevent future abuses. Aren't other countries taking action too?

On another note, I think that it's sick the church forbids Priests from marrying. It's unhealthy for people to be expected to abstain from sex for eternity. I think that unnatural lifestyle is the root of the problem for the Church.

The figures surrounding the "church scandal" are astounding.

As you mentioned above 4450 priests, which is roughly 4% of the total priesthood molested 11,000 minors.

Here are some figures as it would apply to some corporations (based on the percentages):

Name | Number of Offendors | Number of Children
Walmart (@450,000) | 18,000 | 44,494 |
Dell (@300,000) | 12,000 | 29,640 |
Mom and Pop (generic, 100) | 4 | 10 |

In even the smallest organization there is a large number of offendors and an even larger number of abused children.

Oh well. As long as they are in the church it must be ok. /me rolls his eyes.

I agree that priests should be able to marry, most other Christian religions allow this, and I think I heard that Catholic priests would marry in other parts of the world a while ago. It would definitely cut down on the problem, and I do not see how any harm would be done by them marrying.

The church has nobody to blame but themselves. The Christian faith has taught it's followers that Sex is a sin, that pleasure is a sin, that women themselves are a sin, and to avoid the appearance of hypocricy they have to follow their own footsteps and continue to be celibent. Although they tend to be hypocritical anyway...remember the first openly gay bishop that was appointed recently? The Church has been outspoken against homosexuality for hundreds of years, but as soon as one is openly inducted into the fold, they all think it's a great idea.

And lord knows how I hate a hypocrite.

I loathe hypocrites too.
