There was once a person who said that the world was cruel
There was once a person who said that the world was cruel on a thread
so i answered that: The world is cruel because people want it to be cruel. If you want the world to be better, follow my advice 'cause I'm a perfect exemple: now I have no enemy or nemesis at all. I've only got friends. I'm almost never stress out and I take life like it goes. I also take like easy or seriously depending on the situation. All you have to do for being that way is to see what is gonna happend and make the effort to start to understand it or to not care about it. Be always focus and never panic. All that to say that if you were like that this thread would never have continued this far. Those who wanted to insulted him wanted to be cruel to him. That's why the world is cruel. Because they wanted it. Accept him and let the world be a little better. If he choose to do something bad in the futur it's because he want it. So, my advice is to wait and see like I always do. I hope all of you are gonna make this world better. So I'm asking this question why do you think the world is cruel or not?? |
Re: There was once a person who said that the world was cruel
Yes, this world is cruel, because so many people are liers, cheaters, crime commiters, and greedy aggressive people that only care about themselves way too much of the time, regardless of how much it screws over other people.

Religion and the oppression of religion is also to blame. The Crusades, Trail of Tears and other Native American hardships, the war in the Middle East; most of the cruelty probably comes from the fact that one culture/group/individual thinks they're better than the other.

The whole food chain, survival of the fittest thing is pretty cruel too. No mercy for the weak and retarded in the animal kingdom.

Re: There was once a person who said that the world was cruel
Nature is merciless.

Re: There was once a person who said that the world was cruel
And of course, humans being the pinnacle of nature are therefore the pinnacle of cruelty.
Just to note, most of the suffering in this world is not caused intentionally. Almost no one acts in a way they think is wrong, or greedy, or selfish. Probably over half of the suffering in this world is the product of misguided altruism, and most of the rest stems from actions which presume to be able to minimize suffering by inflicting it selectively. |
Re: There was once a person who said that the world was cruel
This is the way I see things. A person once said "Life is not fair". Personally I hate that saying and would be glad to take a shotgun to the face of who ever first said that nonsense. Such a statement is jumping to conclusions. Surely one could atleast try to make life fair for themselves and possibly others. I say "Life is not fair, atleast not unless you make it fair".

Re: There was once a person who said that the world was cruel
There's this quote that says, "The only thing evil men need to succeed is for good men to do nothing." Inaction and willful ignorance of our problems are as much a contributer to cruelty and evil as people who willingly perpetuate in that kind of immorality.

If it weren't for humans being so cutthroat/cruel, we'd die out a long time ago. It doesn't mean that we shall continue to be so, we may/will simply change/evolve to suit our needs. Technology, knowledge may render the survival instinct less potent or totally get rid of it if we don't need/use it. If that is to happen, it is not happening anytime soon unless we augment the process synthetically. Besides we'd cease to be what we call ourselves "human" we'd become pretty alien from my point of view.

The world is cruel not because of crime, but because people accept the world. Don't! Stand up! Shout out for kindness! You see it on television! A bunch of people in a big arena and 500,000 people! Then these two guys are slamming each other all over this little square getting knocked into the ground like animals! And these people don't gasp in shock. No, they CHEER. Ancient times were no better. Must I remind you of the Colosseum in Rome, where innocent and guilty, man and animal, hundreds, even thousands, on lives were put at stake all because some bloodthirsty tyrant like Nero felt like sh**, so he decided to take two people, give them swords, and let 60,000 of his fellow citizens watch these two men tear each other apart?!?! The world is only cruel because no one speaks out for it. If someone had told that to Emperor Vespasian 2,100 years ago, the great-great-great-great ancestors of about 150,000 people would be here today. |

Re: There was once a person who said that the world was cruel
I don't think the nature is specifically cruel. I think that we are equipped with what we need to combat our vices, and that the struggle against nature, society, etc. is equitable in and of itself. Nature gave birth to us, and it also kills us. I would like to think that Nature is not merciless either. Merciless implies that there are times when nature has no mercy. I think that this may be ambiguous and has cases where it is not true. The word I would use is indifferent. Indifference is not the same as cruelty or mercilessness.
I think we can argue: Sometimes nature is cruel. All other times nature is not cruel. Nature is not specifically cruel to one set of things. Nature is not specifically uncruel to one set of things. Therefore, nature is indifferent. |
Re: There was once a person who said that the world was cruel
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone....
What is the reasoning behind sitting here and agreeing with each other that the world is cruel? We all know that bad things happen because of the lack of compassion in the people we label the "bad guys". What needs to be realized is that everyone contributes to the cruelties, atrocities and the now shameless state of man. This is why i think the main reason for this thread is to help people realize what is happening and what they contribute to and maybe encourage them to try harder to make the world a nicer place. Cause seriously... a massive global-wide movement of niceness is not going to happen anytime soon. However, if we do our part to be nice then other people will notice and possibly decide to try harder themselves. |

Re: There was once a person who said that the world was cruel
This brings this whole nature vs. nurture argument into play.
What makes us humans so cruel by default? Are we born with this characteristic or do we leran it from the crappy world we live in? Perosnally, considering all of the world seems to hate another part of the world in some respect, I go with the nurture argument. |
Re: There was once a person who said that the world was cruel
Nurture as an argument is inherantly flawed, because in order for someone to nurture a quality in you, they need to either possess or be aware of that quality in order to nurture it. This implies that someone, somewhere had it as part of their nature in order to pass it along.

if the world was not cruel we'd have no reason for jails and we'd have no reason for CSI's
