intriguing! radiation= : (
so...if anybody doesn't have any background on this matter: cockroaches are immune to radiation, it hasn't been discovered yet why they are immune, but when the moment we do, and manage to do that to humans, nuclear war begins, yay.
so...just wondering if there were any theories out there |
Hmmm...It probably has something to do with embedded DNA sequnces in their genes...or the exosceleton plays a role somehow. But going witht the first theory, once the government passes the bill on genetic engineering, this is very possible...but nuclear weapons will still be banned because vaccinating the masses is very difficult! (as we learned with the smallpox vaccinations). Also the lasting affect the radiation would have on everything else would screw us in other manners. So, most likely it would be used on military personell only and nukes would probably still be illegal to fire. But in this world today you really never know!

Trust me on this one, radiation makes land un-livable, In Hiroshima TODAY it is still impossible to grow crops of any sort. The scars of radiation from nukes run deep and last a long time on the land. Plus the initial killing affect of nuclear weaponry cannot be stopped. The extremely large blast of heat the ensues is what kills, radiation was just a side affect. A deadly one mind you.

we are talking about a radiation immune country basically, we could inject it into whatever the fucl we wanted
it would take an enormous number of nukes to destroy the US by sheer force radiation in the bombs is quite powerful....it is indeed possible to kill everyone in the US with about 3 bombs, and let the wind do the work |
Lupin....This is an actual fact stated by the Pentagon a few years ago. The United States alone, only using half of it's nuclear power, could physically destroy the earth. There are millions of nukes out there Lupin, and all too many are aimed at us...
|
a valid point sephiroth (thumbs up)
heh, did you know that on cape cod during the cold war (might be wrong on this one) there is something called PAVE PAWS (allows you to see all around curves of the earth). Russia later admitted that 400 nukes had been locked on that target...a funny thing because i live within 50 miles of Cape cod. course if there was a nuclear war, survival would not be wanted by anyone (if there was radiation in that proximity) |
So if I put 130 Magnets next to a cockroach, nothin' will happen?
|
I guess not.
|
Interestingly fun.

See, that why everyone hates and/or fears cockroaches. They obviously have immense power and intelligence compared to us, thus why everyone either freaks out or squashes them on sight.
Think about it. They can slip through very tiny areas, making no secruity unbreachable, they are hard to find when youre looking for them, their overall worldwide popultion must be enormous, they can live for about a week without their heads (probably wrong on that one), immunity to radiation, making our most powerful weapons much less effective, and they make themselves all gross as a strategy of striking terror in our hearts, and because theyre so punily small, no one will take them as a threat till its too late. Just biding their time....Yes....Just biding their time.....They'll never get me of course......Thank god for Raid and Bug Zappers.... WHERE'S MY MEDICATION!? |
Kind of off-topic...
I know you guys see all these post acolyptic sci-fi movies and stuff. They are based after a nuclera war or something. I was quite intrigued when it was pointed out to me that modern day Hiroshima and Nagasaki are post-acolpytic cities. I know it is just stating the obvious, but most people don't even realize that. |
cockroaches are not smarter than people. because cockroaches do not even have the capacity for abstract thought. Their brains do not have certain parts that our do, nor are they developed properly, they don't know what or why, don't dream, don't have feelings.
They aren't really immune to radiation, just more unlikely to be affected by it because we have more complex genetic code which can be easily altered, cockroaches don't. And I wouldn't even worry about a killer cockroach, seeing that it will never be possible for it to get much bigger than they already do, because if they did they would weigh too much with their skeletons and become unable to move. |

I'd be more afraid of Scorpions, which are actually COMPLETELY immune to a nuclear blast and the radiation. Theoretically you could drop a nuke on a scorpion and it wouldn't die, plus scorpions have stingers. And SG, if we stop cutting down trees the insects WILL get bigger. May I recall the early Triassic period where there was an abundance of trees and there were cockroaches and scorpions up to 6' in length...

Oh one more thing, props for secret Zombie Room SG, it kicks.

Probably the reason why cockroaches are somewhat immune to radiation (and everything else) is because they are some of the oldest creatures on earth. Ancestors of cockroaches were around with dinosaurs, and they've had a lot of time to evolve. Technically, they're some of the most perfectly evolved creatures on earth. They can sustain themselves with very little food and water, they grow immune to poisons and insecticides very quickly, and they can survive for up to a week with their head cut off or their heart ceasing to beat (true). It's why they are so hard to get rid of, and why everybody hates them so much.

there were also millipedes (several hundred legged bugs) that were like 10 feet in length and 6 feet high. I wish I had one of those as a pet scenario in school: { bully: yo kid, gimme your money me: I have a better idea, how bout you give me your money, then my giant millipede eats you *bully looks up* bully: aw fck... } that would own |
this is the critical thinking forum. thank you
|
oh, sry about that.. but it would kick ass to have something that hugemongus as a pet
