Is America ready?

i was just wondering do you think america is ready for a president other then a white male. and if Hillary clinton or Barack Obama win the primary what do you think there chances are. also do you think alot of people will be racialy biased when voting.

I think there's too many racists in America... but I might be wrong.

Thread title edited. Y'know how first words and country names are capitalized? And did you see that? Questions end in question marks!

Some people will certainly be racially biased, without a doubt. In a country of three hundred million, you're going to get just about every opinion there is.

Also, there's no sense in your question. Are we "ready"? What the hell does that mean? That we'll break out into civil war if a black or a woman president is elected? Come, now.

And, there's no guarantee of a black/woman president. One will surely be eliminated in the democratic primaries, and they still have a republican candidate with whom to contend.

I highly doubt either of those candidates will win.

There is no way a woman or an African-American is gonna win the presidency. There ARE too many racists/sexists. Even if they do get into office, they will have so many threats/protests against them/negative feedback that they wont get anything accomplished. Do you think that most men think a woman can run the military?

I call bull****. Nobody but a select couple of very small groups would ever try something like that. America's way too PC these days to allow racism to exist anywhere.

All I have to say is that I go for presidents that I can depend on, not the ones with a certain race or gender. Gay, Lesbian, White, Black, Orange - doesn't matter.

If only all of America was this way........

I think it would be really nice if someone other than a white male won, but I just don't see it happening. There are far too many racist and sexist people. I just don't think most people are mature enough to understand that everyone is equal.

To be honest a female can't run a military. I'm a girl and even I have problems with the thought of sending people out to war and I play alot of violent games. I'm not sure though. I guess tahts what secretary of defence and such is for. In all other things I believe sure a female or african-american would rock as a president. I guess it is time for some change. I'm voting the african-american as of right now. Maybe i'm thinking too far into it but african-americans deal with racism alot and know how it is to be shuned out and pushed aside. Being homosexual I get that alot. No matter where I go theres always a pair of eyes of disaproval. Maybe being african-american he would understand how troublesome it is being pushed aside. But I have to watch and look more into it. This is just from what i've heard.

Hopefully, if the war in Iraq ends soon, a female will prevent it from happening again. Maybe she can find more diplomatic ways to solve problems around the world.

By the way, what's the plural word for crisis?

Holy crap, people, would you support your statements with anything?

Over 122 million people voted in the last presidential election. This would require tens of millions of racists and sexists to go to the polls and vote in a way that would completely contradict how they've voted in the past.

That's ridiculous! There just plain aren't that many of them out there!

Whether or not other poeple can take a female or non-white president not know to me. I certainly wounldn't mind having a non-white or female president. That is as long as I agreed with their views and they could handle the position as president. People like Hillary and O'Bama I can't stand.

I HATE when people do this. She says that she's female and wouldn't want to send people to war so therefore all people of that gender must be like that.
Anyway, on the racism/sexism issue, it might make it slightly harder to get elected but it couldn't be more than 1% so it won't make a difference unless it's really close.

I think I'm having deja vu about this thread. I think I saw one that had a VERY SIMILAR on Gaia.

~*~

Personally I don't care what gender, race, or religion the president is, as long as he/she's not an idiot and knows how to properly run the country.

As for the mindless rascist/sexist idiotic assholes that so unfortunately populate America, I don't care. The electorial college can ignore them.

Is it so much a stretch of the imagination to be politically opposite of a candidate? I can't stand Hillary, either. I'm cooler with Obama, but he doesn't have as much of a history to scrutinize. He could be just as bad as she, but maybe he's just a cool liberal.

They exist, but that doesn't mean I'd want one as a president.

I've scarcely had the time to see the electoral race, so I want to see what people think of the candidates.

Re: Is America ready?

The racism/sexism can go both ways you know. If you say that some people will not vote for either one of them because they are a different race/gender then you better also believe that a WHOLE LOT of people are, in contrast, going to vote for them BECAUSE of their difference in race. I know so many people that are so "pro-change" and concerned with there being absolutely no discrimination that they will vote for one of the two to prove that they can and say that it should be that way.
