Who's gotten into college this year?

For all the seniors out there, have you been accepted anywhere, and if so, have you made a decision on where you're going yet?

I just got accepted into Penn State University Park, which is where i'll be going

Congraturation to you and anyone else who gets into their school of choice. Was that the only school you applied to, or did you have backups?

I applied to University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, DePaul University, Loyola University Chicago, and University of Michigan Ann Arbor. I got accepted to all four, and even got scholarship money from both private schools, but I'm most likely going to UIUC.

I'm probably not going to university next year but the year after instead.

Mostly because I hear it costs money.

If you guys heard about VA, apparently going to a local community college for two-years guarantees me entrance into any college I want. Off to community college I go then. Hopefully, my buds can get their **** together by July when we all move out. >_>

Oh really..
I was thinking of going to VCU after I graduate high school.
I'm not so sure though, but it should be cheaper cause I live here, right? :]

I'm a freshman, so.. I shouldn't really be thinking about college yet.
But, whatever.

Heh, I go to VCU. Didn't know you lived near, Nyokou.

And Chromer, I haven't exactly heard that, >_> but if your grades really suck, redeeming yourself in community college is a good way to give yourself a chance of getting into a school you actually want to be in. But don't think it's just a free ticket into William & Mary or anything like that. >_>

I haven't heard back from any colleges yet. It'll be a while because none were ED/EA.

Yes. East coast ftw.

I live in Richmond.

I'm also thinking of applying to other art colleges btw.

Also.. what's the difference between college and university? =\

SCAD in Georgia is also a pretty highly-regarded art school, but going to an in-state school saves a LOT of money (not to mention ease of travel). VCU's art school is tough and competitive, so if that's what you're looking for, you're pretty lucky to have it right next door as it is. XD If you have any questions about VCU I'd be happy to talk about it.

As for college and university... I'm pretty sure there isn't really a clear difference here in America anymore. I think they still care up in Canada, but here, they're basically the same thing (although you might notice colleges seem to be smaller than universities). I still call it all "college" even though my school is technically a university.

Got in to Brown by deferred acceptance last year, thus the gap year this year.

Was originally going to go to Wesleyan, but then I got a letter from Brown in like early June offering me a spot, which was sweet =)

Re: Who's gotten into college this year?

The difference between colleges and universities is that universities offer graduate programs (masters degrees, etc) and colleges don't.

If you're an undergrad, going to a college is better because they focus more on the undergrad program, but if you don't care that much it doesn't really matter.

Any college? Doubtful, but community college is a great way for anyone, really, to fulfill credit requirements early on and get into a better college cheaper and for less time.

As for my future life, I have no clue what I want to get into. I'm thinking art, specifically animation, but that's a really competitive and, worse, washed out (3D animation? PASS!) field, so I'm also considering something in math or maybe economics (although I'm not sure exactly where a degree in economics could get me, anyone dare to enlighten me?).

An economist is an individual who studies, develops, and applies theories and concepts from economics, and who writes about economic policy. Within this field of study there are many sub-fields, ranging from the broad philosophical theories to the focused study of minutiae within specific markets, macroeconomics analysis, microeconomics analysis or financial analysis, involving analytical methods and tools such as econometrics, statistics, economics computational models, financial economics, financial mathematics and mathematical economics. Adam Smith is perhaps the most famous economist, as the founder of modern economics.

.....Or so says Wikipedia.....

As for me...University of Minnesota Third year student...

I'd say come to DePaul if you really like the city. I think DePaul is great. If you ever want to come visit just message me, I'll show you around and stuff...

I know what economics is about, I want to know what majors of the field can actually do in real life. Like, specifically.

If you're thinking about a year in Community College, I'd highly, highly suggest it. I know I was a bit of a screw-off in high school, and a year of CC really got me prepared for college. It's a whole different ball-game, especially when you figure out how much you're paying per credit hour.

Actually I took an econ class and our final was a presentation on ANYTHING related to economics.

Pretty much everything can be related to economics. You can do pretty much anything that involves money.

Oh man. I went through that whole ordeal last year. It was one of the most stressful experiences of my life. Good luck everyone and congrats to anyone that was accepted already. And no worries about not getting accepted...sometimes there is just no way to impress those people.
