Global Warming

There is a lot you can do to stop it, and in reading some of the threads created by users, i decided maybe we should stop complaining about it and actually do something. So here we go.

Powersaving for the average FFR'r.

Let's start with the obvious. Turn off extra lights in your house that you don't need. You would be surprised how many lights are left on when no one is in the room. Another good idea is to turn off all unneeded electrical accessories. If you are on the computer, but have the TV on, and the CD Player on pause, turn off the CD Player and the TV and focus on one thing at a time. Sure it takes away from the experience of being lazy and watching two things at a time, but it's the little things you do that will inevitably save the environment.

Recapping so far:
- turn off unneeded lights and electrical accessories

Let's move to some more advanced things. At night, try turning down your heat a couple degrees lower than normal. And wear warm pj's and wrap yourself in a blanket when you sleep. This conserves a lot of energy. Another thing is to right click on your computer desktop background, and click properties. Then go into Screen Saver and click Power Options (this varies depending on your Operating System) Click to turn off your monitor and hard disks at the appropriate time that suits you. Also set a time for your computer to go into standby.

recapping:
- turn off unneeded lights and electrical accessories
- adjust power settings on your computer
- lower heat

An obvious thing is to not let your car run too long on idle. Living in Canada, we know how important it is to let your car warm up before you drive away, but the truth is, your car only needs to run for 1 minute and 30 seconds for the catalytic converter to warm up and reduce emissions, so you can drive away normally. You may be cold, but remember, it's for the sake of the environment. Also a car check-up at your local repair shop is always good. Especially your tires, your tires determine your fuel mileage, which results in emissions quality. If you do not own a car, then remind your parents of theirs.
or just take the bus.

recapping:
- turn off unneeded lights and electrical accessories
- adjust power settings on your computer
- lower heat
- vehicle check up and no idling
- take the bus

Lastly, a common way to save energy is to use solar technology. I see lots of lights that run off of solar energy, and they use LED bulbs which are highly energy efficient. Which reminds me, use LED lights instead of Incandescent. They are a lot easier on the energy bill. But getting back to topic, solar energy is becoming more and more accepted into todays market, so invest in the technology, as it is getting cheaper.

Final recap:
- turn off unneeded lights and electrical accessories
- adjust power settings on your computer
- lower heat
- take the bus
- vehicle check up and no idling
- switch to LED lights
- invest in solar

Here is the idea behind this. Energy conservation means less energy to be made at the local power plant. This means less emissions at the source. Turning down heat reduces your house emissions, which is the number one emission out there in total. Less idling in your car reduces emissions as well. All of this is little for an individual to do. Although for some they cannot do some of these things for certain reasons, thats fine. But if you are worried about global warming, try some of these solutions, or many more you can find on the internet. Just remember, when you are doing these things to save power, you aren't the only one who is doing it. There are many out there also saving power, reducing emissions. Your contribution is everything.

I myself am not worried about global warming too much, my car gets great mileage and saves gas really well. However i put in some time and effort for those who are more worried than i am. This is dedicated to you guys. If there is any questions, feel free to post it in my FFR profile.

If the temperature goes up by five degrees in my lifetime, which is assuming global warming speeds up like 250+%, all it will do is make Virginia more temperate, and raise my property value. Why on earth would I want to stop it?

Yeah, this is me, not caring about global warming. :|
I mean, I do all I can to save power, it has been instilled in me since birth, but I feel that's all I can do and might as well not get upset about it. Props to you for composing this article regarding power saving though. We should all do everything in our power to conserve all we can, for many reasons.

The whole point is that if only a few degrees celcius lost globally is enough to plunge Earth into an ice age, what could the reverse do?

Nice C + P, the writing style and punctuation of the article and your conclusion don't match.

I want it to be warmer because, I do not like the cold.
Also if Henry, Ford wouldn't have made the automobile, we wouldn't have half as much pollution!

Yeah, the polar ice caps are melting. So are the brains of everyone that thinks it's a problem. Where did all of our lakes come from? Why is the sea higher today? Hey, remember that Ice Age a while back? If there is such a thing as "global warming," it isn't humanity's fault. It's the natural progression of nature.
