Fate

Do you believe that you make your own decisions, or that everything you do has already been decided by your fate? I confuse myself sometimes when I think about it. "Is fate real? Was it my fate to think 'Is fate real?' or was that my decision? Was it my fate to think that thought? Or did I decide to think that thought about thinking 'Is fate real?'?"

See, I drive myself mad just by thinking about it.

Even creepier to think about:

What if I'm the only real person, and the world around me is all a massive figment of my imagination?

Another thing that will drive you mad if you think about it too much.

I don't believe in fate, for religious reasons.

I don't believe in fate. I hate the idea that something or someone is controlling every aspect of my life. So I don't choose to believe in it.

I have to point out what Chardish said. I've had that run through my head a lot.

JustJono 12-21-2003 02:59 PM

Oh yeah here's something else to think about - Karma. My cousin told me a lot about it.

Have you guys ever playing Genso Suikoden I and II? That's the theme of the game. Is there fate/can it be controlled?

Anonymous 12-21-2003 07:15 PM

i would have to agree with qualy, cuz i don't like the idea about someone else controling andmaking my decisions for me..
but then you have to think.. is it fate that's making me make that decision.. or is it me..
in any case.. i choose not to think about it...

(i think.. lol)

Or, slightly similarly, "what if the world was just made right now, but it was made with all memories, et cetera?"
Or combine them, "what if I was just put into this world, but all my, and everyone else's memories, etc. came with me?"

Or, what if the me I see, is not the real me at all.

I hate questioning my existence. It drives me insane.

I could go on forever about my theories on life, but heres my funnest,

we're all a bunch of highly superior intellect species in some unknown part of the universe and we're plugged into these wierd machines that let us experience anything we want. due to our constant needs for newness, we keep plugging in every time we die in the fantasy world we call earth, hence child birth. there's a few of our spieces that are getting really bored, or about to die, those are your psychotic, genocidical people.

think about it..

(is genocidical a word?)

jpyb007 12-23-2003 11:29 AM

so THAT's the reason we see "aliens" and "UFO's"...because our own highly developed species wants to return to "earth" but not through the imaginary device thingy.

What about destiny then? Is destiny decided through fate or is fate decided through destiny? Is it destiny that takes us down the path of fate or is it fate that takes us down the path of destiny?

Well I didn't bother reading any of the posts so I'll just put my own personal opinion about the matter. Fate is kinda like your future. To me, it's not the decisions you make, I think it's more of the outcome and consequences of making those decisions. But there are times where the decisions yes and no will lead to the same consequence. I read some other thread earlier so I'l ltake it for example:

YOu find out somehow *a psychic maybe? LOL* that you will die in a terrible car accident. From then you, you don't ride in ANY vehicles whatsoever. no cars, trucks, trains, buses or anything of the sort. Instead of driving, you still have the option of either walking, biking or whatever. Now think, what happens when you cross the road? you could get ran over by a car still. that COULD is determined by fate. if you were truly destined to get ran over by a car, it'll still happen, wether you be in the car, or be HIT by the car. did ANY of that make sense? hope so :)

eyespewgreekfire 12-27-2003 05:28 PM

well, you never actually know that something is gonna happen, for example, you could jump out of a window and die that way and the prediction would be wrong

hEaLiNgViSiOnAnGeLicMiX 12-28-2003 11:40 AM

Hey you've got a point there. =\ Never really thought of it that way. But simply by jumping out a window doesn't really kill you. It's usually when you hit something *like the ground or a large building or whatever* that you your life comes to an end. But hey what if...You jumped ou the window, into the road. and BAM! here comes a car? YOur death would still be considered to have happened in a 'car wreck'
