JOHN STIENBACK/OF MICE AND MEN

i have a report due on monday...anyone know any sites to help me...

REPORT #1- make a resume for John Stienback

REPORT #2- what are the 3 biggest themes in "of mice and men" and why?

IAMTHEEVILBEAN 12-13-2003 03:04 PM

another typical stupid English assignment

say on his resume like

name-mr Rojers

occupation-dead

turn ons-microwaves and apple sauce

Lupin_the_3rd 12-13-2003 03:04 PM

should this type of stuff go in critical thinking or not?

jewpinthethird 12-13-2003 03:05 PM

Sorry, I havent read the book. But check out sparknotes.com it can provide some of those answers.

Well, it is sort of ciritical thinking material because it does deal with a higher level thinking (novel themes), but remember, this Forum is not homework help.

well its a good book, and its isnt that long, and it doesnt drag on terribly. you should consider reading it.

Lol a resume? wtf?

Anyway, you won't find anything but some very bad cliffs notes. I tried once when I left my book at school and had a test on it the next day...didn't go too well. But we just finished it a couple weeks ago, I could probably answer the second one.

The three biggest themes would be (this is my opinion, and feel free to elaborate on these..this is just to get you started):
Loneliness. Crooks, Candy, and Curley's wife are all lonely. Crooks deals with his loneliness by talking to people, Candy has his dog and later the farm that Lennie and George propose to him, and Curley's Wife is lonely because she doesn't like Curley and he won't let her talk to anyone.
Friendship: The friendship between Lennie and George is multi-layered. For instance, Lennie thinks of George as a different kind of friend that George thinks of Lennie.
Prosperity: Everyone on the farm has but one goal: to prosper. George, Lennie, and Candy all want to get money to make a farm and 'live of the fatta tha lan'. Curley obviously wants his farm to prosper. Curley's wife wants to become a movie star. And so on...

If you need any more help, tell me or hit me up with a PM. Good luck.

The primary theme is that 'tards must die.

Falcon 12-13-2003 05:07 PM

haha vx :)

i would go with antis themes. its been several years since i've read it, but those seem like logical themes to me. i hope you actually read the book... it was like 5 pages... err, 100 or something. still.

as for the resume, just look up "john steinback" on yahoo.com or something. youll be able to find some good info on there.

I'm reading that book right now, chapter 5 :P
It bores me :|
Most of the books I've had to read for high school have bored me, except Lord of the Flies.

As for sites to help, don't plagiarize. :|

Anonymous 12-13-2003 05:13 PM

i read it, but i need help. and my teachers arent stupid and would recognise pladgerism

the best symbolism here is this...the dog that candy shoots = Lennie

when george sees candy put his best friend to rest, george knows he must do the same to Lennie later on

Anticrombie0909 12-13-2003 08:28 PM

I don't think George knew it then, but there was definitely major foreshadowing.

Side note: 1300 posts. W00t.

makaveli121212 12-13-2003 08:31 PM

it has been a while since ive read it...you can get the movie though, i know that much

Anticrombie0909 12-13-2003 08:33 PM

Yeah we watched it in class. Bit different from the book though, and if your teacher likes to stick in a lot of quote questions (like mine) then you'll have a hard time on the test.

Feuergeist 12-13-2003 09:37 PM

Its spelt Steinbeck.

Will's Crap

yo yo yo. the theme of Of Mice And Men is definitely hardcore lesbian sex.

MalReynolds 12-14-2003 09:09 PM

I thought the end was a bit rushed, but I loved the book...
