Prey

http://www.prey.com/

This game is insanely awesome. NO IDEA what's going on, but it's awesome. I'm almost done with the first part, or so I've heard.

---Synopsis / Spoilers---

Basically, you're a Native American on an Indian ranch/casino. Life sucks. Then you get abducted by aliens. Interesting. Turns out they pretty much want to destroy the planet and use its resources for themselves. Uh oh. While on the craft, you are set free by another person who managed to escape. You set your sights on rescuing your girlfriend, who was on the ranch at the same time. As you run through, you see just what the aliens are doing and experience their technology.

This game is TRIPPY. Seriously. Portals appear out of nowhere sometimes. Sometimes portals are totally invisible from one angle, but move to the other side and you can see it. Sometimes portals open only to have enemies attack you and prevent your escape. But that's not all of course. There are organisms on the craft that use it as their home. In fact, the craft is like a symbiote of metal and organism. It's hard to tell one from the other at times.

Then you die. But your spirit lives on. You can leave your body behind and travel around in spirit mode. But your body can be attacked while in this mode. So even if you die, you can't really die unless something destroys your spirit (I like this).

---End---

I've spent an hour on this game and I love it. I recommend getting the demo to see if you'll enjoy it (and to see if it can run... pretty graphic-intensive). The video trailer for this game proves that it will be intense. Anything and everything in the environment is a separate entity. You can destroy anything. Blow up trees if you want. Clear grass. Yeah. Awesome. The storyline is interesting too, which is the most important part, of course.

Re: Prey

I played the demo at the CPL, it was AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.

The wall-walking and stuff is great, as well as the portals. The organic stuff is SO COOL and organic-looking.

Best part:

*walks into room*
"Man, that's ****ed up."
*walks into next room*
"Woah, nevermind, THAT'S ****ed up."

My only complaint is that nobody moves around fast enough in Prey multipalyer.

It's a generic FPS with some gimmicky stuff. That doesn't mean I don't like it though. The demo played fine I just wished it didn't look like Doom 3.. keeps reminding me..

They used an enhanced Doom 3 engine to power this game. Maybe that's why.

But hey I can see things in this game.

And the trippy stuff is really really well-done.

Example 1: As I was going along, I happened to find a room that linked with the bar you start the game in. Had to change gravity to actually get in the room, but I did. Can't tell you how disorienting it is to face a room directly in front of you on the wall, and you can jump into it. So. Weird.

So after all the enemies die, a ton of portals open up. They all link to each other one way or another. So you can run at one and come out another, but go back in and you come out a different one. Incredibly odd. Turns out that one redirects you back the way you came in and you see what you didn't before. A differently-colored portal sitting right in front of you. Facing the hallway the other portal was at the end of, you couldn't tell at all. It was amazing.

Example 2: Found a room and opened some portals on the consoles. Went in one, it happened to be the other side of a huge room I had been in before, so I collected the weapons from the guys I killed ages ago and went back out. Went in the other portal and saw a room with an arcade game. Video poker. I even took a screenshot of this because it was so funny. The machine had been altered so that no matter what you do, you win. Not only win, but win big. Royal Straight Flush after Royal Straight Flush. Awesome. Found out there was nothing left to do in this room so I left through the portal I came in from. Turns out it leads to a different room. I don't get how that works, but it's awesome.

Oh, and listening to the Earth radio stations while on this ship is hilarious. It's this guy who is accepting calls trying to figure out what is going on in Texas.

Nice. I've been watching this for a little while now. I might download the demo, but I need to find some time to do that first. If it plays as good as it looks then this should be good.

Re: Prey

Pretty sure it's seventeen and up guys, since I'm sure its rated M... and rightfully so.

The demo is about 450mb, which isn't too bad. You can always turn the resolution / texture quality down, which will drastically increase the performance. It's definetly worth a try guys. Like Squeek said... trippy. Typical FPS gameplay, good graphics, cool plot, and wonderful environment. Torrenting... err... buying... the game as we speak.

"Prey" is rated Mature, for Intense Violence, Strong language, Partial Nudity, Blood and Gore.
Can't say I disagree either.

In case you don't know, Mature = 18.

That's what I meant to say :/ Nice engine and all but bad memories.

I have the full version here now. How long is this game? I bet won't play this 'til the end.

Re: Prey

I don't play this game, but...

Maybe it'd be good if everyone that has this game on FFR would meet up and play in multiplayer, since everyone seems to want to play a more fast-paced multiplayer.

I'm sure you could set up a private room and plan to meet at some time on some day.

Re: Prey

I just played this for the first time today, and I was impressed. Looked very good (on my 360, no hd tv :( ) The game felt weird the first time I walked on the walls and whatnot, but it worked so well that it was very easy to get used to. If I ever get some extra cash, I might consider getting this game.

I still need to try the multiplayer. Has anyone here done that yet?
