Re: i'm going to go ahead and say this right now

There are only a few people who I will believe the scores of without any real doubt. These are the people that I have seen progress through the game along with myself, and get better over time. Furthermore, their scores have always been consistent to some extent.

The biggest reason that I have a hard time putting faith in the scores of the current big one handers here (Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss and Macgyver, I guess) is because I never saw them improve. My first sight of their scores was when they were already at a very high level of play. And I know, from personal experience, that building skill as a one hander is a very slow, gradual process - my biggest evidence for this is that both Kilga and I improved at practically the same rate for well over a year.

I understand that the Brag Board is a much harder place to make any sort of impact on now than it was back in the infancy of my SM days. The bar is simply much higher now than it was in the past, and thus it isn't unlikely that someone waited until they had substantial skill before posting. However, I have run into a lot of people that claimed to have substantial skill in the past after playing for only a few months, and that simply does not compute.

Oh, and I'm not calling BS on either Yesssssssssss or Macgyver. Both of them have always posted consistent scores, as far as I am aware. I just wouldn't bet anything important on the credibility of their scores.

However, there are people who came out of nowhere with really good scores who have proven that they are legit... just look at cky's OML vid

Yeah he uses his thumb, but you don't get that good overnight.

That's a better OML score than I'll ever do because I'll never play that OML again.

Re: i'm going to go ahead and say this right now

I got called BS on my first score post because all the oldbies who played back in the very slow progression days saw it first and thought my rate of improvement was stupidly good.

But we all know I suck now.

EDIT: I forgot I already replied, ugh, I'm out of it.

If you BS on a "nerdy" game like SM and FFR, you have some serious self-esteem issues. I don't see any reason to play SM/FFR for anything but fun and for personal gratification at your progression.

(Edit was because I haven't had English class in a while o_O)

Re: i'm going to go ahead and say this right now

Wow. This makes me feel like i've been playing for so long, because it has been almost a lifetime of this game. I've been playing for ~5 1/2 years. Yea, its been way too long. There was no SM or FFR back when I started. We had crap like dietdietrevolution and some other s***. And there were only ddr songs and a few crap songs, excluding plaguemix (which at the time was amazing) and some of ren's really early work. first 3 years were 1 handed, until I found the brag boards here and learned of index, which i immediately switched to. Unfortunatley, I didn't realize how good I was at 1 hand at the time or I would have probably kept with it more. about 3 years ago now, I could do Ren's Act and Karma v2 1 handed, and that was pretty hard back then, since I hadn't figured out speed mods yet. Anyways, after 1 hand, i went index for about a year, and got decent at that. Now, for the last year or whatever, I've been playing spread and this is where i've had the most improvement. Thats probably a story that is way too long but whatever. I don't think anyone is doubting me, but I've been wrong before /life story

People are playing more in less amounts of time.

In the beginning there was no pressure to (for example) AA something like Gravity because barely anyone could do it, so there was not as much as a drive to play so much until you achieve that AA on Gravity.

Now that people have been playing for long periods of time you can commonly see people AAA'ing Gravity. The average n00b will play Gravity and get disapointed from the results. The only solution would be to play more and reach the set norm that everyone else is doing.

Need an example? I have one for you:

Female

That is all.
