Nomic, a game based on "The Paradox of Self-Amendment."

Nomic is a game that well exemplifies the paradox of self-amendment.

http://www.earlham.edu/~peters/writi...ow%20to%20play

The initial rules follow the basic gameplay explanation.

I'm just interested in seeing if any of you CTrs are interested in playing. If no one knows who you are I'd prefer you'd not post, because you are probably stupid.

I guess a basic synopsis would be good for lazier people.

Basically, you have a bunch of initial rules that govern gameplay, and how you win. You take turns voting on new rules, ousting rules, or disabling rules.

Thank you for that rousing addition, can't believe I missed that.

That game seems to be quite silly

I think you should play this with LightKnight and ddrruler.

Let us know how it turns out.

My bro quit FFR. Leave him alone. Although, I suspect he may be around after 3rd Style.

You never know, that could've taken a lot of thought to come up with... I mean, he did post the link to that game and all...

I saw this like last year in Games Magazine

it's much more interesting than it seems from right away (or so say the writers of htat magazine)

I respect the opinions of those people because they play tons of games and they know what is serious business.

They say that one of those games takes like 11 hours to play because the rules can do whatever they want. I don't think I have the time to try a game like that though.

Bump because this is a really cool game that deserves more exposure.

Unfortunately I have no idea how I'd go about actually playing it. <.< Anyone tried it and have an idea of the strategy?

worst bump ever.

Unlocked, by request that someone wants to make a legit bump.

Re: Nomic, a game based on "The Paradox of Self-Amendment."

If we start this game up we need at least 3 people for now. I count for the first one and we need two more. For people who are too lazy to read the first post the link to the rules is: http://www.earlham.edu/~peters/writing/nomic.htm You do not have to read part A but part B is recommended, along with the starting rules. How we go about playing the game will be decided once we actually start.

I won't actually play, but here are a few rules I'd add:

301. The game ends as soon as any rule is made or changed.

302. When the game ends, all players lose.

104. All rule-changes proposed in the proper way shall be voted on. They will be adopted if and only if they receive the required number of votes.

Are you going to play Patashu?

What's paradoxical about self-amendment...?

ddrdanc3r55 06-13-2006 10:15 AM

Re: Nomic, a game based on "The Paradox of Self-Amendment."

In. I played this game at DDRFreak. I made an amendment that prevented the game from being screwed over if one person didn't vote, but one person didn't vote, and the game got screwed.

Samineru 06-13-2006 10:55 AM

Re: Nomic, a game based on "The Paradox of Self-Amendment."

Ok, so the current members are ddrdanc3r55 and I. So how are we going to play? I suggest we delete this topic/make a new one so we dont have the first 20 or so posts cluttering it up. One the new topic the first post will have all the rules we currently have, the proposals, and the members. Then I can edit my post as the game progresses.

I wouldn't play, I'd have no idea what to do.

So this is kind of pending approval from above on whether or not we can start a new thread.

Start a new thread, definitely, when the game starts, more organised that way.
