Cast your votes for CT Topics '06

I'm looking at what courses I plan to take at school when I attend this January, and I figured I'd start with a Philosophy class. I have to take either "PHI 210 History of Philosophy: Knowledge and Reality" or "PHI 215 History of Philosophy: Justice and Virtue." If anything interesting comes up, I'd post it here, no doubt, so I figured I'd have you guys help me decide which one to take.

Course descriptions are as follows:

PHI 210 History of Philosophy: Knowledge and Reality (GE) (3)
Study of major ancient, medieval, and modern philosophers and schools of philosophy on questions concerning knowledge, mind, and reality. Readings focus on primary texts from major authors of the Western tradition.

PHI 215 History of Philosophy: Justice and Virtue (GE) (3)
Study of major ancient, medieval, and modern philosophers and schools of philosophy on questions concerning morals and politics. Readings focus on primary texts from major authors of the Western tradition.

Because I really didn't have a preference, I voted for 210 to cancel out your miscast vote.

Knowledge, mind and reality seem more interesting tham morals and politics to me.

Definitely go with the Justice and Virtue one. Understanding one's morals is the best way to understand one's self.

Justice and virtue seems boring. Go with Knowledge and reality.

K&R sounds like it would be more applicable to your life unless you're planning on a future in politics (bleh).

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean by knowledge, reality and the mind. If it's that philosophical stuff, then I'd go with V&M. :P

I know that V&M is going to have a good section on biblical topics, being that that has been a large part of morals through time. I for one, would like that more, but that depends on your preference.

Justice and Virtue is going to be a bunch of stuff that doesn't have correct answers. You'll actually have to think. You'll probably learn more important stuff though.

Knowledge and Reality - Probably more interesting, but less useful, but your grade will probably be higher

I really don't like the actual thinking and learning stuff, so I'll go with K&R

You know, Cen brought up something I should have mentioned earlier.

These courses ARE being taught at a very small MORMON opereated liberal arts college.

Do with that imformation what you will.

Hmm Mormon... sorry to flame any Mormons or anything, but I would be afraid to take the reality course there.

What? K&R is winning?! You people need to stop and think for a moment: The study of morality is a much more widely discussed and more actively evolving topic. There are actually currently major debates regarding ethics and morality. You won't find anything mainstream about knowledge and reality, except for what you'd learn in a modern physics class. Besides, who wants to write a paper about transcendentialism? I write papers evaluating moral values regularly, and I find it quite intriguing. Go for J&V, K&R is for pansies.

The_Q talked me into taking Justice and Virtue over AIM. I just registered for the class about 15 minutes ago.

You can talk about knowledge and reality a whole lot without getting anywhere... =/

K&R...I hope this poll isn't a huge determinant for your final decision.

GuidoHunter 10-17-2005 09:09 PM

You don't read too well, do you?
